Type 1 United supports children, adults and families living with Type 1 diabetes. The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing Type 1 United programs, including Camp Leo sessions, Leaders in Training, ConnecT1D Family Camp, and the ConnecT1D Adult Retreat.
This position is remote although the program manager is required to be on-site for all programs which include four camp sessions for children in the summer, a family camp in September and an adult retreat in April.
Core Qualifications
- Strong interest in Type 1 United’s mission; a personal connection to Type 1 diabetes is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience planning and managing programs; camp or social support program experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work effectively with others in challenging situations.
- Ability to self-manage, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Highly driven, organized, and detail oriented.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); database experience a plus.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and professional written and verbal communication.
- Commitment to ongoing learning.
- Minimum age of 21 by the first day of employment.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Valid WA driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Must pass a Washington State background check.
Relationships
Reports directly to the Executive Director and works closely with Camp Directors and all program volunteers.
Physical Aspects of the Job
- Primarily remote; King County residence preferred. Attendance at programs required.
- Reliable and stable Wi-Fi required.
- Ability to perform continuous keyboard work.
- Must be physically present for all program delivery.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and transport supplies around the Puget Sound region.
General Duties
- Design, implement, and evaluate Type 1 United programs.
- Serve as on-site program manager for community programs.
- Serve as primary contact for participants and families.
- Coordinate with camp leadership on enrollment, special needs, dietary restrictions, and medical concerns.
- Maintain accurate rosters, financial spreadsheets, and participant records.
- Support outreach to past participants to increase engagement.
- Update staff manuals, with direction from the Executive Director and Camp Directors.
- Manage all program-related planning meetings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Essential Job Functions

- Collaborate with leaders and committees to design programs.
- Manage program planning meetings and documentation.
- Oversee volunteer and participant registration and screening.
- Plan and prepare logistics.
- Serve as lead communications contact for participants and caregivers.
- Manage registration software end-to-end.
- Participant Management (20%)
- Manage participant registrations, tracking, reporting, and customer service.
- Serve as primary point of contact for families, addressing concerns with professionalism and empathy.
- Process payments and maintain detailed records.
- Follow up on outstanding payments.
- Administer scholarship program and maintain accurate records.
- Work with Camp Directors to assign campers to appropriate cabins.
- Provide families with detailed instructions before program start.
- Volunteer Recruitment and Management (20%)
- Recruit, retain, and support volunteers.
- Lead planning meetings and coordinate volunteer assignments.
- Work with medical directors to ensure safety protocols and emergency procedures are in place.
- Conduct volunteer interviews and manage placements.
- Communicate roles, expectations, and training schedules with program volunteers.
- Conduct background checks and track training completion.
- Program Delivery (25%)
- Attend and coordinate program sessions.
- Ensure effective on-site program delivery.
- Serve as the lead on-site contact for volunteers and participants.
- Uphold all emergency procedures and program policies.
- Outreach, Marketing, and Communications (5%)
- Assist with program marketing efforts.
- Manage outreach to volunteers.
- Contribute program-related content to social media.
- Represent Type 1 United at community meetings, events, and fairs.
- Participate in community speaking engagements as needed.
- Administration (10%)
- Update and manage the Camp Leo Summer Camp Manual.
- Create the ConnecT1D Family Camp Manual.
- Develop and maintain Program Manager SOPs.
- Track program budgets and expenditures.
- Produce program reports for grants and accreditation as requested by the Executive Director.
- Support the Executive Director in achieving organizational and program goals.
