    Introduction:

    The Community Outreach & Education Attorney will play a key role in advancing the organization’s mission by building community relationships, developing and delivering legal education programs, and providing limited direct legal services. This position bridges legal advocacy and public engagement, helping to ensure that impacted communities understand their rights and how to access legal resources.

    This is a dynamic role for someone who is passionate about legal empowerment, community-centered lawyering, and increasing access to justice. The position requires travel, including overnight travel, across the state.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Community Engagement & Education

      • Develop, deliver, and evaluate know-your-rights trainings, legal workshops, and community education materials tailored to specific audiences.
      • Partner with community-based organizations, schools, and advocacy groups to co-host or co-create outreach events.
      • Represent the organization at community events, town halls, and coalition meetings.
      • Serve as a legal resource for community partners and stakeholders.
      • Work with ILCM’s legal team and partners to respond to enforcement actions to provide resources and information to impacted individuals and families.
      • Share immigration updates that affect Minnesota communities on social media through videos and posts.

    Legal Services & Support

      • Provide limited legal advice, brief services, or referrals as part of outreach efforts.
      • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant areas of law to ensure accurate and effective education content.
      • Collaborate with staff attorneys and legal teams to identify legal trends and translate them into community education topics.

    Program Development & Administration

      • Contribute to the design and improvement of outreach and education strategies.
      • Assist with grant reporting, data collection, and program evaluation.
      • Maintain organized records of outreach activities, partner contacts, and community feedback.

    Qualifications | Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing.
    • Minimum of 1-3 years of immigration legal experience, preferably in an attorney-level role or similar.
      • Ability & willingness to travel, including overnight travel as necessary and required for the role.
      • Fluency in a language spoken by a significant proportion of ILCM’s client population, such as Spanish, Somali, Hmong, Amharic, Oromo, Karen, or Karenni.
      • Experience in working alongside diverse communities.
      • Experience in advocating on behalf of and with immigrants.
      • Proficient in all Microsoft programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint.
      • Experience with LegalServer and immigration forms programs preferred.
      • Detail-oriented, service-oriented, organized and able to meet deadlines.
      • Dedicated, reliable, organized and able to handle a high volume of assignments.
      • Exhibits positive attitude and flexibility and works effectively within a team.
      • Experience with office equipment, including copiers, and telephone systems.
      • Excellent interpersonal communication and superior customer service skills.
      • Understands confidential nature of organization information and maintains privilege and confidentiality.
