    Job Title: Communications Director

    Team: Communications

    Location: Open, including working remotely. Preference for NRGI office locations (Accra, Brussels, Bogota, Dakar, Lima, London, Mexico City, New York, Santiago). Kindly note all applicants must have confirmed permission to work

    Reports to: President & CEO, member of the senior management team, oversees Communications Manager, Latin America Communications Officer and Africa Communications Officer.

    The Natural Resource Governance Institute (NRGI) is a leading international non-profit organization to ensure that countries rich in oil, gas and minerals achieve sustainable, inclusive development.     We are seeking a Communications Director to spearhead the evolution of our global communications. This is a unique opportunity to leverage a team of committed, passionate experts with a shared vision for more strategic communications to drive and accelerate the impact of our work. We seek a leader and thought partner to bring these ambitions to life and to ensure we shape public debate and policy from the community level to the global stage.

    Why This Role Matters

    • Lead transformation: You will drive a strategic shift in how NRGI communicates—connecting insights to live global debates, elevating equity and governance in conversations on climate, democracy, and sustainable development.
    • Global influence: From New York to Dakar to Lima, your work will ensure NRGI’s research, analysis and advocacy shape policies and practices that impact the lives of billions worldwide.
    • Build a movement: You will embed communications consideration and action across the organization, empowering staff and partners around the world to tell stories that inspire action, shift narratives and upend power imbalances.

    What We’re Looking For

    • At least 10 years of experience in strategic communications, advocacy, and/or influence roles, including senior leadership experience in a global organization.
    • A proven record of translating complex ideas into compelling messages, shaping narratives, targeting decision-makers, and leveraging communication to achieve measurable impact.
    • Strong organizational leader with exceptional management skills, practiced in data-driven decision making.
    • Experience with fundraising and staff capacity development and mentorship. High level of emotional intelligence and cultural competence, ability to secure buy-in and make tough decisions to advance communications impact.
    • Fluency in English is required; additional fluency in French, Spanish, or Arabic is highly desirable.
