About Turning Point of Windham County

Turning Point Windham County (TPWC) is a peer recovery center dedicated to supporting individuals and families impacted by substance use disorder. We provide a welcoming, stigma-free environment offering recovery coaching, peer support, educational programming, and community connection. Our work is rooted in compassion, collaboration, and the belief that recovery is possible for everyone.

    Position Overview

TPWC is seeking a skilled and motivated leader to support a county-wide outreach initiative across Windham County. This temporary position will focus on community engagement, needs assessment, and strategic exploration of expanded recovery services in rural areas.

The Rural Outreach Coordinator will serve as a relationship-builder and community organizer, meeting with stakeholders, service providers, municipal officials, and community partners in towns throughout Windham County. The goal is to assess recovery-related needs, identify partnership opportunities, and evaluate the viability of satellite services or expanded programming as well as provide education about current recovery services provided by TPWC in partnership with the State of Vermont Division of Substance Use and State Opioid Response Grant.

This is a temporary position running through the beginning of July with a potential for continued opportunities and will be a richly beneficial employment opportunity for a Windham County leader looking to engage across the entire county.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct in-person meetings with community leaders, service providers, faith communities, healthcare providers, law enforcement, and other stakeholders across Windham County.
    • Assess local recovery needs, gaps in services, barriers to access, and community strengths.
    • Identify and explore potential partnerships and collaborative opportunities.
    • Evaluate the feasibility of establishing satellite services or expanded recovery programming in underserved areas.
    • Develop and administer surveys and structured outreach tools as needed.
    • Collect, organize, and synthesize qualitative and quantitative data for internal assessment and strategic planning.
    • Provide written summaries, reports, and recommendations to TPWC leadership.
    • Represent TPWC professionally and effectively within diverse communities.
    • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the values of peer recovery and harm reduction.

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated experience in community organizing, outreach, public health, nonprofit work, or related fields.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trusting mutual relationships across diverse groups.
    • Experience facilitating meetings and engaging community stakeholders.
    • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and travel throughout Windham County.
    • Strong organizational and data management skills.
    • Familiarity with substance use disorder, recovery support services, rural communities, or Vermont’s service landscape preferred.

Lived experience in recovery is valued but not required.
