    Now Hiring: School Coordinator

    Freedom Side School is opening a free abolitionist elementary school in Philadelphia for young freedom fighters! We will open our doors and welcome our first class of students and families in the fall of 2026. We are currently seeking applicants for the role of School Coordinator.

    Hiring Timeline

    • Applications will be accepted until Monday March 9th.
    • First round 30-minute zoom interviews will be conducted on a rolling basis.
    • Invitations for finalist round in-person interviews will be sent by March 23rd.
    • We hope to extend an offer for this position by mid-May.
    • The start date for this role will be no later than August with 3-4 weeks of dedicated in-service and onboarding before our first day of school, with flexibility to start earlier for the right candidate.

    Job Description

    The School Coordinator will serve as a key member of the Freedom Side School Administration Team, and will be supervised by the Director of Administration and Advancement. This role involves coordinating essential work associated with both day-to-day school and broader organizational administration.

    Key Skills for this Role:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an administrator, in-school experience strongly preferred
    • Strong task management, problem solving, and multi-tasking skills
    • Demonstrated ability to self-direct work
    • Comfort and ease with technology - both familiar and new platforms (Google Workspace, Multi-line phone systems, Student Information Systems, etc.)
    • Attention to detail and ability to self-monitor work for accuracy

    Key Responsibilities for this Role:

    First Line Coordination

    • Understand the full scope of FSS structure, staff roles, and responsibilities
    • Field visitors and incoming calls with warmth, care, and patience, ensuring that folks are connected to the right person on staff

    School Operations and Administration

    • Coordinate student medical and health support
    • Manage state orders and procurement
    • Coordinate food and transportation services
    • Coordinate family member transportation assistance
    • Coordinate asset management for FSS materials

    Registrar

    • Collect student attendance and ensure timely reporting to the state
    • Support student registration and enrollment
    • Coordinate student reports
    • Manage Student Information System - specific experience with Sycamore is a plus
    • Manage student records

    We are prioritizing candidates who…

    • Are directly impacted by mass incarceration, including candidates who are formerly incarcerated or have incarcerated loved ones
    • Have experience in the anti-prison and/or abolition movement
    • Have community organizing experience or are willing to learn

    Benefits

    • 5% salary increase each fiscal year

    • FSS observes about 50 days of paid organizational closures a year, mostly aligned with academic calendar breaks, including planned winter, spring, and summer breaks
