    Staff Electrician

    The State Theater of Maryland, Baltimore Center Stage (BCS), is fresh from a transformational 2024/2025 season including world-class theater productions and newly launched community programs serving Baltimore artists, the civic life of our region, and young people facing incarceration.     The Staff Electrician is a member of the Electrics department and plays a critical role in supporting the lighting needs of productions during the FY26 Baltimore Center Stage season. This position works closely with the Lead Electrician and lighting designers to program, operate, and maintain lighting systems for assigned productions. The Staff Electrician is responsible for the integrity and maintenance of the show rig on designated productions and supports the overall operational health of BCS’s lighting infrastructure. This is a full-time position with benefits.

    Requirements: Previous professional experience in theatrical electrics is strongly preferred. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in lighting console programming and a strong working knowledge of theatrical lighting systems. The Staff Electrician must be able to work safely in a physically demanding environment and maintain a high level of attention to detail.

    Compensation: $852.90/weekly, with a competitive benefits package.

    The Ideal Staff Electrician Will Demonstrate:

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

    Production Lighting & Console Operation:

    • Program and run the lighting console for assigned FY26 Baltimore Center Stage productions in collaboration with the Lead Electrician.
    • Serve as the primary individual responsible for

    maintaining the show rig on designated productions.

    • Execute lighting cues during rehearsals and performances as

    required.

    Load-In, Focus, and Strike:

      Participate in lighting load-ins, focus sessions, notes calls, and strikes.

        Assist with maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of lighting equipment.

        • Support the ongoing operation of lighting systems throughout the run of

        productions.

        Departmental & Operational Support:

        • Aid in the operation of other programming, including event lighting, console operation, and spotlight operation.

          Maintain organization of lighting spaces, including equipment, tools, shops, booths, and catwalk areas.

            Participate fully in the activities of the Electrics department, supporting the overall health and sustainability of Baltimore Center Stage.

            Safety & Compliance:

              Participate in all required safety trainings.

              • Perform all duties with awareness of safety regulations, best practices, and potential hazards.
              • Follow safe stage rigging practices and protocols when working at heights or with powered equipment.

              Required Qualifications and Skills:

              • Valid driver’s license.

                Proficiency with ETC Eos family of lighting consoles.

                • Strong knowledge of data distribution, networking, DMX devices, and moving lights.

                  Proficiency with LightWright, Vectorworks, and Microsoft Office Suite.

                  • Knowledge of safe stage rigging practices.
                  • Comfort working at heights, including catwalks, ladders, and lifts.
                  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and non-traditional hours typical of a theater schedule.
