Purpose of Position
The Managing Director, Product Management plays a critical role in shaping and advancing EdReports’ product vision and strategy. This role is responsible for both leading the product management function and for providing hands-on product leadership for the Review Design Innovation team.
In partnership with executive leaders and cross-functional teams, this role drives alignment between product strategy and organizational goals while fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and innovation. The Managing Director also serves as a coach and mentor to product managers, designers, and other team members, cultivating both individual growth and collective impact. Through this work, the position ensures that EdReports’ products and practices embody the organization’s mission, core values, and commitments to diversity, belonging, inclusion, and equity.
Key Responsibilities & Outcomes
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of a strong product management function by establishing clear best practices, standards, and systems that reflect EdReports’ mission, values, and commitment to quality.
- Lead product management for the Review Design Innovation team, guiding the full product lifecycle from concept through delivery and iteration, while balancing long-term vision with effective day-to-day execution.
- Design and maintain structures that promote experimentation, user-centered innovation, and continuous improvement across all product work.
- Build, coach and develop a growing team—including product managers and UX designers—by demonstrating empathetic leadership, transparent communication, and accountability for results.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure product strategies are aligned, transparent, and responsive to organizational goals and impact.
- Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs) to build internal capacity around product development and ensure that our products remain true to the highest standards.
- Engage deeply with educators, partners, and external experts to gather insights, validate ideas, and ensure products are grounded in authentic user experiences and needs.
- Work in partnership with executive leaders to define, communicate, and evolve a cohesive product strategy that drives educator adoption, increases field impact, and elevates access to quality materials.
- Steward resources, timelines, and priorities to deliver high-quality, scalable products while optimizing team capacity and organizational resources.
- Embed principles of diversity, belonging, inclusion, and equity into product design, decision-making, and stakeholder engagement to ensure EdReports’ tools equitably serve all communities.
- Other relevant duties as assigned to support the organization's strategic goals, with the expectation that all EdReports employees remain flexible and adaptable to evolving responsibilities.
Outcomes:
First 30 days
- Build a strong understanding of EdReports’ mission, values, product portfolio, and strategic priorities, including the current product roadmap and backlog.
- Meet 1:1 with direct reports, peers, and senior leaders to learn about priorities, current challenges, and opportunities for alignment.
- Complete the transition of supervisory responsibilities and begin regular coaching and development conversations with direct reports.
- Establish initial relationships with cross-functional partners and stakeholders to understand key dependencies and opportunities for collaboration.
First 60 days
- Stand up the Review Design Innovation (RDI) team by developing a team charter, defining roles and responsibilities, and establishing collaboration norms, shared rhythms, and ceremonies.
- Deeply understand the review process, existing review workstreams and commitments, and metrics around the review process.
- Develop a clear understanding of how the EdReports governance model interfaces with the RDI team’s work and decision-making processes.
- Begin shaping a long-term strategy for tool revision cadence and product lifecycle management in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
- Assess current product management practices and identify opportunities to strengthen systems, workflows, and communication.
First 90 days
- In partnership with the RDI team and key stakeholders, define tool scope and priorities for core focus areas to inform the next iteration of the product roadmap.
- Communicate a clear product vision and early strategy recommendations that align with organizational goals and resource realities.
- Be recognized as a trusted, strategic, and collaborative partner across the organization, modeling EdReports’ core values and commitment to DBIE.
Qualifications
Required:
- Passion for EdReports’ mission and vision, our core values, and our commitment to Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in product management, including 5+ years in people management or product leadership roles overseeing multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated success in building and scaling a product management function, including defining processes, frameworks, and tools to drive product excellence and cross-functional collaboration.
- Proven ability to develop and execute comprehensive product strategies and roadmaps that align with organizational goals and deliver measurable impact.
- Experience leading products or tools through the entire lifecycle, from concept and design through implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
- Strong background in research-driven and user-centered design, with demonstrated ability to translate stakeholder and end-user insights into actionable product decisions.
- Expertise in cross-functional collaboration, with a track record of working effectively across technical, content, research, and operations teams to deliver complex products in a mission-driven environment.
- Excellent leadership and coaching skills, with a demonstrated ability to mentor and develop high-performing teams through feedback, accountability, and empathetic management.
- Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage diverse internal and external partners, influence decision-making, and represent EdReports’ mission and values.
- Proven commitment to Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity (DBIE), and demonstrated ability to apply an equity lens in both product development and team leadership practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Product Management, Education, Business, Public Policy, or Human-Centered Design) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred:
- Experience in the education sector, nonprofit space, or an adjacent field involving curriculum development, reviews, evaluation systems, or research-driven product work strongly preferred.
- Deep understanding of the K–12 education landscape, including curriculum adoption, instructional materials, or educator-facing tools and resources.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and ability to adapt these frameworks to a collaborative, equity-centered, and evidence-based environment.
Travel
National travel will occur related to organizational needs and for professional learning, as needed. The amount of travel will be monitored to ensure it is appropriate for both the organization and the Managing Director, Product Management.
Salary
The salary for this position is $116,036 - $174,053 annually. At EdReports, we determine final salaries based on the role's requirements and the candidate's experience and skills, while maintaining equity within our compensation bands. To support fairness and provide opportunities for growth, we typically offer salaries at or below the midpoint of the range. All salary offers are non-negotiable to ensure consistency and equity across the organization.

Work Authorization Requirements
All EdReports employees must reside in and be authorized to work in the United States. EdReports does not sponsor employment visas, and we are unable to consider candidates residing outside the U.S.
Physical Requirements
Work is normally performed in a remote office environment including, but not limited to standing and sitting for long periods of time; and fine-finger and hand manipulation to operate a computer and keyboard. Employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing electronic information, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading. This person will travel by car, air, or other transportation (as indicated in the Travel section) and should be able to physically withstand the demands of such travel. Employee may be required to walk for long distances at retreat venues or other relevant sites.
