    Description

    DVP seeks a Development & Communications Assistant to join a passionate team helping survivors of intimate partner violence and their children gain safety and independence. The Development & Communications Assistant will provide administrative, creative, and operational support to the Director of Development and Marketing & Communications Supervisor. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, passionate about DVP’s mission, and able to thrive working both independently and collaboratively. This is a hybrid position working full-time through June 30, 2026.

    ABOUT DVP

    The Domestic Violence Project (DVP)’s mission is to help survivors of intimate partner violence, and their children live free of violence and abuse, marshalling the combination of legal and advocacy services necessary to secure justice and a dignified quality of life. We consider intimate partner violence – regardless of gender, sexual identity, religion, immigration, or other status – to be a human rights violation. We serve an average of 1,600 survivors annually across all five boroughs of NYC through our comprehensive direct services (legal representation in family law and immigration matters, holistic case management, and empowerment groups), plus an additional 2,000+ reached through community outreach, education, and clinics.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Development & Communications Assistant will report to the Marketing & Communications Supervisor and is responsible for the following:

    Communications

    • Draft and execute a comprehensive and creative social media strategy in line with DVP's goals and values
    • Post regularly on DVP's channels including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok to grow audience and engagement
    • Create and curate engaging content including photo, video, and graphics
    • Develop a deep understanding of DVP's audiences and their respective interests
    • Conduct research and outreach to potential social media partners, including local officials and politicians, influencers, and more
    • Identify collaboration opportunities with other non-profit and socially conscious organizations, publications, or similar
    • Monitor channels for trends, news, and feedback; Analyze social media data to identify opportunities for improvement
    • Stay up to date on the latest best practices

    Development

    • Conduct background research on prospective funders
    • Help maintain deadlines within an active grants pipeline; Draft grant attachments and materials
    • Draft communications targeted for current and prospective donors including program updates, stewardship, and gift acknowledgments
    • All other tasks as assigned by management in service of DVP's mission

    REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

    • 2-4 years experience in similar social media marketing, development, or communications role
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Detail oriented with excellent organizational and project management skills
    • Strong knowledge of social media platforms and their respective audiences
    • Familiarity with digital marketing strategies
    • Knowledge of and/or willingness to gain understanding of intimate partner violence and trauma
    • Experience with video editing preferred
