    Description

    Position Summary

    The Center for Death Penalty Litigation (CDPL) seeks a Director of Finance and Administration to oversee the financial health and sustainability of the organization. This position is primarily responsible for providing strategic financial guidance to support the organization’s mission and objectives, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and coordinating risk management and benefits management. The Director of Finance and Administration serves as a key financial advisor to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, facilitating informed decision making.

    Key Responsibilities

    Financial Management (Director of Finance and Administration Duties)

      • Oversee all accounting and financial activities, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
      • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management, board, and funders.
      • Manage budgeting process; collaborate with Executive Director to develop and monitor annual budgets and program budgets.
      • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
      • Coordinate and oversee annual audits and 990 filings.
      • Maintain internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial data.
      • Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and investment accounts as applicable.
      • Support grant management, including preparing financial reports for funders and tracking restricted funds.
      • Assist with strategic planning and financial forecasting.

    Human Resources Management

      • Oversee payroll processing and benefits administration.
      • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and nonprofit regulations.
      • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records and HR documentation.
      • Develop and update HR policies, employee handbook, and organizational procedures.
      • Partner with Executive Director to promote an inclusive, equitable, and mission-driven workplace culture.
      • Serve as primary contact for HR-related inquiries and employee support.

    Qualifications

      • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or in a related field (CPA or SHRM certification a plus).
      • 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting and HR management; nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
      • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards (FASB, GAAP) and HR best practices.
      • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Excel) and HR/payroll systems (e.g., Paychex).
      • Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
      • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
