    POSITION DETAILS

    City University of New York seeks a highly qualified candidate for the role of Student Career Program Manager (Assoc. Director of Student Engagement & Programming). CUNY School of Law is a national leader in progressive legal education with the mission of training a diverse student body to become excellent public interest attorneys. As part of its mission, the school prepares students to practice "Law in the service of human needs."

    The Associate Director of Career Planning for Student Engagement and Programming provides individual career advising to students and alumni, designs career readiness programming, and the law school. Reports to the Director of Career Planning. The role focuses on collaboration with Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Alumni Engagement, and Student Affairs to expand resources and outcomes for students.

    Other key duties include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Provide one-on-one and small group career advising to students and alumni, including reviewing application materials, preparing for interviews, and developing job search strategies.
    • In collaboration with the Associate Director of Employer Recruitment, put together and lead employer informational sessions
    • Design, lead or coordinate workshops and programming on careers in the law, job search skills, and professional identity formation.
    • Outreach to faculty, student organizations, and law school departments to integrate career development into the academic and co-curricular experience.
    • Coordinate the advisement of tracking of the employment status of the most recent graduated class; contribute to the annual collection of data collection and reporting of the employment status of the most recent graduated class, as mandated by ABA and NALP.
    • Work with Alumni Engagement to connect students with alumni for mentoring, networking, and career opportunities.
    • Collaborate with Admissions and Communications to highlight and communicate student career outcomes to prospective students and external audiences.
    • Coordinate with other units within the Student Affairs & Enrollment Management Division in conjunction with career development with student support and wellness initiatives.
    • Develop innovative programs that enhance student engagement in career readiness.
    • Supervise the Assistant Director of Career Planning

    Occasional evening and weekend hours required to support programs and events.

    This position is subject to the same in-person requirements as other staff in the Law School. This entails a minimum of 80% in-person presence on-campus and may be higher than 80% based on departmental and divisional needs.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor's Degree and six years' related experience required.

    PREFERRED: The ideal candidate should have:

    • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school with at least 3 years of legal practice experience, preferably in public interest or public service sectors
    • Demonstrated experience advising a diverse student population in a graduate or professional school setting
    • Strong communication skills including the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences and to collaborate across stakeholders.
    • Experience with data collection, analysis and assessment, to inform decision-making and measure outcomes.
    • Highly organized and detail-oriented
    • Basic proficiency in career management software, spreadsheets and word processingsoftware

    CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW

    Develops and manages career development programs and services in a College of Unit and assumes a leadership role in the design and delivery of creative approaches to career education and planning.

    • Assists in unit planning, such as setting goals and objectives, and monitors status of progress toward meeting goals
    • Designs and produces outcomes assessment reports; reviews outcomes and feedback and recommends strategies to expand and improve services.
    • Directs a portfolio of targeted career programs, such as mentoring, internship, and alumni programs
    • Manages one or more aspects of career office operations, such as on-campus recruiting
    • Evaluates new technologies, assessment materials, and other career tools, makes recommendations, and acquires/implements them
    • May counsel a limited number of students
    • Performs related duties as assigned.
