    About the organization:

    The St. Julie Haiti Project serves the people of Les Cayes, Haiti, in their pursuit of jobs, education, and self-determination. The project’s approach prioritizes access to school, employment, and leadership development. The anchors of the project include the bakery and clean water initiative, which are operated by community members in Les Cayes. These projects employ community members, who learn key business skills through their participation, and whose work contributes to generating revenue that helps sustain the project and worker wages. Support from the Sisters of Notre Dame and their partners helps to cover gaps in revenue, a scholarship fund for workers’ children, and operational guidance.

    Position description:

    This position will primarily focus on the collection and review of reports (revenue and expenses) along with supporting documentation submitted by the team in Les Cayes. This position will require attention to detail, analytical skills, and a commitment to learning and working across cultures to ensure accuracy and completeness. Tasks include:

    • Strengthening systems and schedules for tracking revenue and expenses related to the project’s varied initiatives, included but not limited to:
    • Producing monthly income and expense statements for the Director
    • Revenue generated by sale of bread, water bottles, and other products
    • Expenditures on wages, scholarships, and supplies
    • Ensuring all revenue and expenses are well documented and entered accurately in organizational bookkeeping systems
    • Overseeing the procurement of certain supplies, including capital expenses
    • Reconciling bank statements with revenue and expense reports and ensuring accuracy across all systems, including internal workbooks (Excel) and Quick books
    • Using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to record income and expenses according to the organization’s chart of accounts and budget

    Preferred experience:

    • At least one year working in a bookkeeping or other financial management role; associates degree (or equivalent) in bookkeeping preferred
    • Familiarity with using Quick books
    • Demonstrated skills in clear written communication
    • Familiarity with basic Microsoft and Google platforms (i.e. Excel, Word, G-Suite) preferred
    • Advantageous to be able to communicate (written or speaking) in French or Creole

    Level of Language Proficiency

    English
