Starting Salary Range: $68,000-$70,000/year

Position Overview:
The Accounting Specialist plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of our nonprofit organization. This position is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general financial recordkeeping. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and motivated to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data while fostering strong relationships with vendors, donors, and grantors.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounts Payable (AP):
- Review, process, and enter vendor invoices with proper approvals and supporting documentation
- Prepare vendor payments (checks, online payments, auto-pay scheduling) and ensure timely processing
- Maintain vendor files, including W-9 forms, and communicate with vendors to resolve discrepancies
- Organize and file payment records in QuickBooks Online and shared drives
- Support monthly AP reconciliations with bank and credit card statements
Accounts Receivable (AR):
- Prepare and issue invoices to donors, sponsors, and grantors in alignment with budgets and contracts
- Track incoming payments, update records, and post receipts accurately in QuickBooks Online
- Communicate with donors, sponsors, or grantors regarding outstanding balances or inquiries
- Maintain AR aging reports and participate in monthly receivables meetings
- Assist in preparing reports for management and board review
General Accounting & Administrative Support:
- Assist with account reconciliations and financial analysis as needed
- Prepare bank deposits and record them in the accounting system
- Support audit preparation and ensure compliance with nonprofit financial policies
- Assist with organizing financial documents, filing, and preparing materials for meetings
- Perform other duties in support of departmental goals
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to communicate clearly with staff and vendors to ensure smooth flow of accounting processes
- Promote the mission and vision of the LDBPI in individual conversations and at events and meetings.
- Support organizational events like the annual Mother’s Day Walk for Peace, Peace B’Que, and Survivors of Homicide Victims Awareness Month events
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field, or equivalent work experience
- Understanding of accounting principles
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Interest in nonprofit operations and financial management
Time Commitment:
- Full Time hybrid, 40 hours/week: In Office 3 days a week, including Fridays
