    Reports to: Accounting Manager

    Location: Hybrid NYC

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Staff Accountant supports the Finance department by performing more complex accounting tasks and ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial reporting. This role includes managing a broader range of accounting activities, such as monthly financial statements preparation, assisting in budgeting processes, and helping maintain internal financial controls. The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in the organization’s financial health, particularly in managing financial reporting, grants, and ensuring adherence to GAAP for nonprofit organizations

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform complex reconciliations for all general ledger accounts, including bank reconciliations and intercompany transactions.
    • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing key financial insights to support decision-making.
    • Maintain the General Ledger by reviewing entries, posting journal entries, and performing month-end and year-end closing activities.
    • Ensure compliance with grant requirements, tracking fund usage, and preparing necessary reports for grant compliance.
    • Assist in the coordination of annual audits and ensure all audit requests are completed promptly.
    • Review and process accounts payable/receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and proper classification.
    • Collaborate with other departments to provide financial information and insights into their budgeting and spending.
    • Identify areas of improvement in accounting procedures and internal controls and recommend solutions.
    • Assist in implementing and managing accounting software and technology upgrades to improve workflow efficiency.
    • Maintain and improve documentation of financial processes and policies.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education Associates Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred

    Experience and/or Training 4 -6 years' accounting experience in non-profit industry; must have knowledge of, and comply with, GAAP for non-profit organization and general accounting procedures and policies; must have knowledge of non-profit tax-exempt accounting procedures

    Technology/Equipment Advanced proficiency in using Excel for data tracking and reporting (to include power queries and pivot tables); experience using SAGE Intaact software

    OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

    • Must be able take direction and work as part of the wider accounting team.
    • Must be able to work independently when completing delegated tasks.

    • Ability to work a full-time schedule and have regular attendance at the workplace.
    • All other work-related duties as assigned.
    • Ability to travel as needed to attend work meetings or events.

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

    Hybrid work schedule – 1-2 days a week in person working out of the NYC headquarters office.
