Media, PR, and Communications
Under the direction of the Executive Director and in close coordination with other directors, this position is responsible for setting and implementing an innovative strategic direction of communication, maintaining consistency of messaging, and supporting a strong operational foundation for all media and public communications efforts, including:
- Maintaining a consistent brand, voice and message for WildCare across all public-facing channels and touchpoints
- Driving WildCare’s regular and proactive media outreach, coordinating with the Executive Director and department heads to position WildCare’s events, priorities, and issues effectively
- Initiating, writing, and sending frequent and timely press releases and media alerts to a wide range of media outlets, including the ongoing refresh and expansion of media lists to maximize coverage
- Responding to media inquiries, doing on-camera and off-camera interviews, approving media content and providing collateral (video, photography) to media as requested. (These requests often can happen outside normal business hours.)
- Maintaining and stewarding strong relationships with reporters and media outlets while proactively cultivating new contacts—including regional and national outlets—to position WildCare as the “go-to” source for wildlife information
- Overseeing the editorial direction and final review of the WildCare print newsletter magazine, with support for content gathering, story development, and photography coordination (2 editions annually)
- Creating and overseeing a structured process to consistently gather and deliver compelling stories and photos from WildCare’s wildlife medicine, nature education, and advocacy work, reliably supplying Development with the content needed for fundraising, donor stewardship, and external relations.
- Creating public-facing content for advocacy campaigns including petitions, sign-on letters, and surveys
- Partnering with hospital staff to make sure that all public facing content involving wildlife care on every platform is preapproved to meet state and federal Fish and Wildlife requirements, as well as our organizational ‘voice and tone’ when speaking about animals and patient cares
- Leading social media strategy and oversight; supervising and mentoring the Social Media Manager; staying current with evolving trends and platforms; establishing an annual proactive strategy with clear success metrics; overseeing and participating in content creation; and driving audience growth
- Supporting the Elevate WildCare capital campaign through regular, high-quality written project updates and compelling photos supplied to the Development Department
- Cultivating and managing opportunities for WildCare presentations to professional groups and associations; proactively seeking and securing new speaking and presentation opportunities; and developing and delivering compelling presentations that support WildCare’s programmatic reach, awareness, and donor community growth
- Partnering on special donor tours and fundraising presentations as requested
- Copy editing and proofreading WildCare materials, and overseeing consistent mission alignment and application of the WildCare Style Guide across digital and print content produced by all departments
- Providing graphic design support for posters, invitations, brochures, and other innovative collateral
- Managing and executing WildCare’s annual Living With Wildlife Photo Contest
Advocacy
Responsible for leading communications-driven advocacy that strengthens community engagement and positions WildCare as a trusted voice for wildlife and habitat protection:
- Developing and implementing campaigns that raise awareness about local wildlife and habitat protection issues and engaging community members in meaningful advocacy actions.
- Collaborating with education and program teams to produce and distribute materials informing the public about urgent conservation challenges and WildCare’s key policy positions.
- Representing and networking on behalf of WildCare with policymakers, local organizations, and the media to promote evidence-based solutions for wildlife and environmental stewardship.
Website
Responsible for setting the vision, strategy, and implementation of WildCare’s online presence, including:
- Creating and maintaining all website content including pages, posts, and other digital elements.
- Leading the development and coordination of web content across all departments of WildCare
- Partner with external website consultant for the planning of web communications and maintaining a long-term web content plan
- Implementing the web communications plan and editorial schedule
- Planning, writing, implementing and sending at least weekly emails, including eNews email communications and “stand-alone” messages
- Maintaining internal photography and videography database of photo and video collateral
- Serving as technical contact, including working with copy and code, performing testing and ensuring functionality of the website etc.
- Acting as project lead for WordPress as necessary.
