    Description

    The Petworth Community Market (PCM) is seeking a creative, organized, and energetic person qualified to assist the Board of Directors and the Market Manager to manage a weekly seasonal farmers market.

    The PCM is a seasonal weekly market founded in 2010 and located on 9th Street between Georgia Avenue and Upshur Streets NW. PCM provides an opportunity for the sale, trade, and promotion of local produce, goods, and services with a focus on producers, artisans, and entrepreneurs in the greater Petworth area. The PCM is open from 9 AM to 1 PM every Saturday, May through November.

    Job Description: The PCM is looking for an On-Site Market Coordinator to perform a variety of tasks vital to the smooth and consistent operations of the market. The primary responsibility of the On-Site Market Coordinator is to oversee the day-of operations of the market and the accompanying weekly accounting and reporting updates. This position also requires a limited amount of time for administrative tasks during the week (M-F) and is expected to work closely with the Market Manager to ensure the continuity of the PCM’s operations. Duties include, but not limited to:

    • Manage the operation of the market on assigned Saturdays. Tasks include:
      • Retrieve PCM equipment from storage and setup market
      • Close 9th Street to traffic and report all non-market-oriented vehicles are removed before market
      • Direct vendors to their designated spaces as they arrive and conduct vendor inspections to ensure compliance with PCM policies
      • Manage market-day food assistance programs
      • Administer patron counts
      • Answer questions and provide information to patrons
      • Manage volunteers
    • After closing, complete accounting tasks, such as recording transactions and payments owed to vendors, and managing EBT accounting in cooperation with the treasurer of the Board of Directors and the Market Manager
    • Assist in planning and executing special events on assigned Saturdays
    • Attend monthly meetings with the Board of Directors
    • Coordinate with the Market Manager in preparation for the weekly Saturday market, including reviewing market map and following up on last-minute vendor communication
    • Represent the PCM at special events and fundraisers on occasion
    • Other duties as assigned

    Time Commitment: Approximately 8-9 hours per week during the market season (May to November) with limited preseason and off-season work. Required 6 hours of work on Saturday, 8am-2pm from May to November. Approximately 2-3 hours of administrative tasks/commitment per week to prepare for the market (May to November).

    We seek an applicant who can join us this spring for off-season preparation and be able to work with us to launch and operate the 2026 Market Season starting in May. The On-Site Market Coordinator will ideally be able to attend the market at least every other week, although we are willing to work with individual schedules. We strongly prefer a candidate that is interested in growing with the role and the Petworth Community Market over multiple seasons!

    The successful On-Site Market Coordinator will have:

    • A basic knowledge of and interest in farmers market operations
    • Excellent communication, problem solving, organizational, and time management skills
    • An interest in working with people – farmers, vendors, and community residents
    • Knowledge of Google Workspace
    • Ability to work in various databases for tracking and accounting purposes
    • Physical ability to lift a minimum of 30lbs, and move and set up the market tents and related market equipment
    • Ability to speak Spanish desired but not required

    Pay Rate: Hourly rate of $22.00/hr
