    Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate is a hands-on, curious communications and marketing professional who can step in and quickly make meaningful contributions in a six-month, part-time fellowship. They thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments and excel at translating strategy into clear, human-centered communications and content. They are a strong writer and editor with experience creating compelling storytelling that helps land ideas, supporting marketing campaigns and brand-aligned messaging. Highly organized and detail-oriented, they are comfortable managing multiple workstreams, coordinating across teams, and keeping priorities on track.

    Well-suited for a fixed-term role, this proactive self-starter exercises sound judgment, communicates effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional partners, and brings structure to evolving communications needs. They are motivated by mission-driven work and energized by contributing meaningfully during a period of organizational growth. This role reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing and the Chief Operations Officer.

    Key Responsibilities

    Communications & Content Execution

    • Support GitLab Foundation’s storytelling and thought leadership. Create original content that supports our mission and elevates our work.
    • Draft, edit, and produce high-quality content across channels, including blog posts, social media, newsletters, marketing materials, presentations, and internal updates.
    • Coordinate inputs from grantees, partners, and internal teams, and translate them into clear, compelling narratives and visuals.
    • Prepare and refine CEO- and leadership-facing communications materials, including talking points, decks, and briefings.
    • Ensure all communications are accurate, on-brand, values-aligned, and tailored appropriately for different audiences and geographies.

    Marketing, Campaigns & External Engagement

    • Support marketing and engagement campaigns by managing timelines, coordinating contributors, and tracking deliverables.
    • Assist in developing and maintaining marketing assets such as decks, one-pagers, case studies, dashboards, and videos.
    • Support execution of digital and social media efforts, including content scheduling, editorial calendars, engagement monitoring, and performance tracking.
    • Provide communications and logistics support for events, convenings, and conferences, including agendas, materials, invitations, and follow-up content.

    Cross-Functional Support

    • Manage communications workflows, tools, and documentation to ensure efficient, high-quality execution in a remote environment.
    • Coordinate with external vendors (e.g., designers, writers, video editors) to support timely delivery of communications and marketing assets.
    • Track basic performance indicators and support reporting to inform iteration and continuous improvement.
    • Support budget tracking, invoice processing, and administrative coordination related to communications and marketing activities.

    Desired Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Personal Attributes

    • 3+ years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, a related field, or academic pursuit
    • Demonstrated interest in mission-driven work and high-quality storytelling
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex ideas into clear, accessible messaging
    • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver work on tight timelines
    • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills, including comfort working with senior leaders and cross-functional partners
    • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback and iterating quickly to improve work
    • Thrives in fast-paced environments and takes initiative when presented with new tasks or evolving needs
    • Demonstrates emotional intelligence, integrity, humility, and alignment with the GitLab Foundation’s CREDIT values

    Location: Fully remote; candidates must be based in the United States

    Time Commitment: April 2026–September 2026; approximately 20-25 hours per week

    Travel: Potential for one work-related trip; all travel expenses covered by the Foundation

    Benefits

    401(k): The Foundation contributes 10% of base salary (no employee contribution required).
