    Description

    Who We Are

Impact Justice advances safety, justice, and opportunity through boundary-breaking work that honors and empowers people and is changing expectations about what we can accomplish together. We imagine, build, and scale innovations, leverage research and other knowledge to connect the desire for change with informed action, and work to shift the narrative so that decision-makers and the public understand what’s at stake and what’s possible.

    About California Justice Leaders

A first-of-its-kind AmeriCorps program that began in 2019, CJL is designed to engage young adults who’ve successfully transitioned back into their communities after having had contact with the justice system.

Through AmeriCorps, CJL employs young adults for a year of service. These AmeriCorps Members will have had prior involvement with the criminal justice system, will likely have experienced confinement and will have demonstrated successful re-entry into their communities. At their AmeriCorps placement site, each Member serves as a navigator for youth and young adults currently in or released from California’s juvenile facilities.

    Who You Are

You have an ethos of social justice, racial justice, community, and mutuality. You have an orientation and belief that criminal justice involvement should not be an impediment to employment, career, and personal growth opportunities. You have experience working directly with vulnerable and marginalized populations.

    You also have…

    • Experience with case management for career and/or education-based programs for participants
    • Coaching skills based on an ethos of social justice, racial justice, community, and mutuality
    • Experience working with system-impacted people and/or vulnerable populations
    • Ability to identify academic, professional, and personal needs/strengths in participants and team members
    • Ability to work well independently and with a team
    • Highly developed time management skills, project management skills, and acute attention to detail
    • Ability to organize information for individual members and participants, monitoring progress, and troubleshoot needs
    • Ability to work well with remote staff
    • Ability to co-manage support team staff (remote and in-person)
    • Ability to pass a federal background check
    • Active car insurance and continued access to a vehicle with a valid and current driver’s license

That said, we know there are great candidates who may not think they fit into what we’ve described above or who have important skills we haven’t thought of. If that is you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself! And if you’re a formerly incarcerated individual, someone who has a family member who is or has been incarcerated, or otherwise have direct experience with the criminal legal or juvenile legal systems, we will be particularly excited to hear from you.

    What You Will Do

You’ll be the owner of the implementation, day-to-day operations, and continued development of the CJL program in the Central Valley in conjunction with the CJL Regional Manager Team. This includes direct supervision, coaching and support for Members across the region (approx. 12). It also includes working with the Senior Program Manager to secure host sites for Members and provide management oversight to each of those host sites (approx. 6). This position will engage with the volunteer site supervisors to ensure the collection and monitoring of data and progress toward programmatic outcomes and ensure compliance to AmeriCorps federal regulations – inclusive of monitoring member service hours and adherence to the member job description.

In collaboration with the Regional Program Manager team across the state, this position will also be responsible for the coordination and implementation of member orientation, onboarding, ongoing training, and graduation. You will support the continued development of the statewide program’s training plan and curriculum and will provide additional support to participants across regions as needed. Travel responsibilities will include local site visits and occasional travel to our Oakland and Los Angeles offices. You will also be expected to complete in-person visits to each placement site at least three times per year (Orientation, Mid-year, Final).

    Your core responsibilities will be:

    • Managing and coaching CJL Members
    • Matching Members with resources and support opportunities as needed
    • Providing supportive coaching based on personal and professional needs as they arise
    • Facilitating professional development trainings and discussions for large groups of people
    • Drafting, implementing, and ensuring adherence of Members and program staff to program policies and procedures
    • Building relationships and providing ongoing support to host sites
    • Overseeing member and host site relationships
    • Designing learning opportunities tailored to Members’ needs, experiences and aspirations
    • Organizing technical logistics and coordination, including but not limited to:
      • large-scale events and convening (virtually, and in-person once safe to do so)
      • cycles of course-based learning
    • Supporting in recruitment efforts, conducting community outreach, and cultivating new program partnerships to aid program growth, development, and overall success, including conveying a compelling vision for AmeriCorps involvement to prospective hosts and external parties
    • Coordinating and developing marketing materials, communications tools, online support, and social networks for the California Justice Leaders Program
    • Gathering, managing, and reporting data related to member and partner involvement and progress (attendance, skill progress, reported well-being, etc.)
    • Working with consultants as needed

Note, this position is a Program Manager role in Impact Justice’s job structure, though the external-facing title will be CJL Central California Regional Manager.
