    Description

The Invitation -- Are you a compassionate spiritual leader who finds God in the margins? Chaplains on the Way (COTW) is seeking a Director of Chaplaincy and Programming to be the heart of our Breakfast Program. This is a dual-role for someone who loves "boots-on-the-ground" ministry—combining deep, trauma-informed spiritual care with the rhythmic, essential logistics of feeding our unhoused neighbors in Waltham.

Work-Life Balance & Compensation We value our staff’s sustainability. This role is designed with a seasonal workflow to prevent burnout and provide personal flexibility:

    • Rate: $27.00 per hour.
    • Peak Season (Mid-Nov to Mid-April): 28 hours/week. Lead our community through the most critical winter months.
    • Renewal Season (Mid-April to Mid-Nov): 18 hours/week (Tuesday–Thursday). Enjoy a 3-day work week and 4-day weekends throughout the summer and fall.
    • Benefits: 15 days of all-purpose PTO + 12 recognized paid holidays.

    Key Responsibilities

    Spiritual Leadership & Presence

    • Provide trauma-informed, interfaith spiritual care and a non-judgmental presence to community members.
    • Facilitate weekly interfaith prayer services, creating a sacred space amidst the breakfast program.
    • Plan and lead memorial services for community members, honoring lives often overlooked.

    Program & Volunteer Management

    • Recruit, mentor, and supervise volunteer chaplains and student interns (M.Div. level).
    • Oversee the daily operations of the Breakfast Program, ensuring a culture of hospitality and dignity.
    • Manage food procurement, menu planning, and coordination of home-cooked donations.

    Community & Administration

    • Maintain vital relationships with the Waltham Police, local churches, and city officials.
    • Ensure grant compliance by managing CDBG intake forms and monthly reporting.
    • Act as a public face for COTW at fundraisers and community events.

    Qualifications

    • Education: Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or M.A. in Pastoral Care/Human Services (Highly Preferred).
    • Experience: 3–5 years in chaplaincy or pastoral care, ideally with vulnerable populations.
    • The "Early Bird" Spirit: Must be comfortable starting at 6:30 AM to greet our guests.
    • Physicality: Ability to lift 25 lbs (food supplies) and navigate a busy kitchen/hall environment.

    Benefits

There are 15 days of all-purpose PTO plus twelve recognized paid holidays.

    Location

    On-site
50 Church St, Waltham, MA 02452, USA
