    Description

    The Friendship Circle of Washington is a vibrant nonprofit organization serving children and families with special needs in the King County area. Our mission is to provide friendship and acceptance to children, teens, and adults who have special needs, provide respite to their families, and to empower teenagers through meaningful volunteer opportunities.

    Our vision is a community where people with special needs are included in every aspect of daily life and have the foundation to live full, happy lives.

    Our programs aim to bridge the gap between special needs and typical youth, empower special needs youth with the skills they need to live a productive and independent adult life, give parents and families much-needed respite, and nurture a sense of awareness and communal responsibility in our teen volunteers. We provide families and siblings of children and adults with special needs with a caring community where they are understood, appreciated, and embraced.

    As a growing organization, we are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Program Coordinator who will hold a variety of critical responsibilities that support the strength of our programs. The Program Coordinator will help develop, coordinate, direct, and deliver all programming throughout the year. This person should feel motivated and excited about working with youth with special needs and with typical teens in a program setting, and be committed to our values of community and inclusion.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Programming: Logistics/Planning/Execution

    • Coordinate and administer all programs and activities (September-June), including 2-3 Sunday afternoons per month and two weekday evenings per month
    • Co-create, develop, implement, and evaluate fun curriculum and programming strategy to run through the school year for our participants (art/STEM projects, movement activities, life skills curriculum, etc.)
    • Manage program RSVPs via text, email, and our online system
    • Responsible for supply inventory

    Community Building

    • Support families through personal outreach and relationship-building
    • Work with the Program Director to onboard new families & volunteers
    • Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and program specialists to further develop programming and community development

    Marketing

    • Help develop various social media strategies in conjunction with other staff, relating to
      • Programming Updates: Live stories, program reminders, etc
      • Important Info: Informative posts on programs, support, and involvement
      • Recruitment Strategies: Socialize Friendship Circle and its mission to the broad community

    Other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs
    • Experience working in a setting with children and teens (preferred but not required)
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to function well in a high-paced environment
    • Comfort in interacting with and leading groups of teens;
    • Ability to motivate and energize others
    • Big-picture thinker who is also detail-oriented and holds themselves to a high professional standard
    • Sensitivity toward the Jewish community

    Desired Professional and Personal Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred;
    • Experience working with people of all abilities
    • Experience with teen leadership development
    • Ability to identify and preempt challenges by working closely with supervisors and staff in a positive, proactive way
    • Effective written and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple channels of communication with families and volunteers through social media, email, text, etc.

    Salary: $45,000-55,000 DOE

    Part-time and full-time positions are available.
