    Executive Director - Lake McMurtry Friends

    The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and provides overall leadership and management of the organization, overseeing staff, programs, finances, fundraising, and operations to advance the organization’s mission and strategic goals. This role is responsible for developing and implementing strategic and business plans; leading fundraising efforts including grants, donor relations, and events; ensuring sound financial management, budgeting, and compliance; serving as the primary spokesperson and liaison with the City of Stillwater, the media, and the public; keeping the Board fully informed of organizational performance; and recruiting, supervising, and supporting staff and volunteers while fostering an inclusive, high-performing workplace.

    Job Description

    The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the organization, including staff, programs, finances, and fundraising, to achieve the organization’s mission and strategic goals.

    Strategic Leadership:

    • Develop and implement the organization’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with its mission and goals.
    • Develop a strategic business plan to help identify short- and long-term plans.
    • Provide leadership in developing program, organizational, and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff and carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board.
    • Promote active and broad volunteer participation in all areas of the organization's work.
    • Maintain official records and documents and ensure federal, state, and local compliance.
    • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.

    Fundraising:

    • Lead fundraising efforts, including developing and implementing fundraising strategies, securing grants, and cultivating relationships with donors.
    • Cultivate a diverse donor base, including annual giving, major gifts, and corporate sponsorships.
    • Engage the Board of Directors in fundraising efforts as appropriate.
    • Plan and execute fundraising events.

    Finance:

    • Responsible for fiscal management that operates within the approved budget, ensures maximum use of resources, and maintains the organization in a positive financial position.
    • Oversight and coordination of all financial operations, including payroll.
    • Fiscal integrity, including submitting to the Board a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements accurately reflecting the organization's financial condition.

    Communications:

    • Ensure the Board of Directors is fully informed about the organization's health.
    • Act as the organization's primary spokesperson and liaison with the City of Stillwater, the media, and the public; effectively articulate the organization's mission, vision, and programs.
    • Seek and coordinate opportunities for speaking engagements and meetings with external organizations.
    • Ensure the activities of the organization, its programs, and its goals are effectively publicized.
    • Ensure internal and external communication are aligned for consistent messaging and branding.

    Staff Management:

    • Responsible for recruiting, employing, and releasing all paid staff and volunteer personnel.
    • Ensure that job descriptions are developed, regular performance evaluations are conducted annually, and that sound human resource practices are in place.
    • See that an effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession, is in place.
    • Encourage staff and volunteer development and education and assist program staff in relating their specialized work to the organization's total program.
    • Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of top-quality people.
