    Job description:

    The Organization

Mission: The Student Immigrant Movement (SIM) is a political home for working-class, undocumented, and immigrant youth, ages 14-26, in Massachusetts. We are a membership-led organization that builds power to advance racial, economic, and social justice. We do this by developing the leadership of immigrant youth across the state through community organizing, popular education, and cultural activism.

Vision: We imagine a world where immigrant youth and all marginalized communities can live with dignity, respect, and freedom, beyond the identities forced on us, beyond borders, beyond status, and beyond the barriers that hold us back.

    Role Summary

For more than 20 years, generations of undocumented and immigrant youth have come through SIM to find their voice, build community, and fight for dignity, belonging, and power in their schools, neighborhoods, workplaces, and across the state.

Right now, SIM is undergoing a restructuring and rebuilding process that will set the stage for the organization’s next chapter. This organizational moment is about embracing our roots, strengthening what we’ve built over these 20 years, and shaping the next era of immigrant youth leadership. SIM is seeking a seasoned organizer to serve as Interim Executive Director for a 12-month term, playing a critical role in guiding the organization through its next chapter. The Interim Executive Director will steward SIM’s Statewide Hub by partnering closely with local groups to support youth leadership and align local and statewide organizing efforts.

Working closely with the Board, the Interim Executive Director will facilitate the organization’s political framework, ensuring youth leaders and members continue to deepen their understanding of the current socio-political and economic context. They will be responsible for strengthening the statewide leadership structure by coaching, mentoring, and supervising local youth leaders and organizers.

Finally, the Interim Executive Director will work closely with the Board to advance fundraising and strengthen internal operational systems, ensuring that SIM continues to thrive in its commitment to being a bold, transformative, movement-centered, immigrant youth-led organization.

SIM is a fiscally sponsored project of Resist, Inc.

    • Supervise, coach, and mentor SIM Fellows, supporting their leadership development and capacity to organize and build a base within their communities through regular check-ins and structured support
    • Oversee the planning and execution of SIM trainings and statewide membership gatherings (e.g., SIM Camp), serving as lead facilitator and agenda-setter while ensuring logistics are effectively coordinated and delegated as appropriate
    • Implement popular education and ensure the learnings are integrated into SIM’s organizing practices through meetings, retreats, and workshops
    • Represent SIM at external meetings with partners and stakeholders, including in coalition and network spaces
    • Build and actively maintain relationships with movement partners, supporting local partners in growing their own internal capacity to advancing youth leadership

    Fundraising & Operations (30%)

    • Stabilize and strengthen internal systems, roles, and workflows during the leadership transition, positioning the organization for a successful handoff to permanent leadership

Communications & Other Administrative Tasks (10%)

    • Provide strategic oversight of monthly donor and supporter communications, ensuring systems and processes are in place to keep SIM’s listserv regularly updated with timely information on organizing, campaigns, and programmatic priorities
    • Set direction and provide high-level guidance on social media strategy and content, delegating execution to youth leaders, contractors, or partners as appropriate
