    Position Summary:

    Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, the Development Manager plays a key role in mobilizing financial resources from a key segment of donors and affiliates to support Guttmacher’s strategic objectives. This individual’s primary focus is to grow revenue and influence family foundations, donor advised funds (DAFs), community foundations and private wealth advisors, in coordination with the development management team. The Development Manager will have the opportunity to work across individual and institutional giving functions to align the division’s efforts to optimize fundraising by drafting and copy-editing written materials to a wide range of audiences; contributing to qualifying philanthropic service and advisory institutions; working with the development management team to expand the Institute’s engagement with family foundations, community foundations, institutions in the private wealth sector, and major donors; and playing a key role in implementing Guttmacher’s fundraising.

    Responsibilities and/or duties:

    • Lead all aspects of written materials to key segments of donors and affiliates (i.e., family foundations, community foundations, donor advised funds (DAFs), philanthropic advisors, private wealth advisors, and major donors), including letters of intent, proposals, reports, project overviews, and one-pagers.
    • Contribute to qualifying philanthropic service and affiliated institutions, and facilitate introductions for other team members.
    • Collaborate with team members to advance Guttmacher’s unique role in the SRHR field and strengthen brand awareness amongst wealth and philanthropic advisors by developing educational opportunities and events of interest to this target audience.
    • Work with team members to refine internal processes and innovation to facilitate increased DAF and family foundation giving.
    • Liaise with donor agency representatives as well as other external audiences; and
    • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Qualifications:

    • 6+ years’ experience in preparing successful grant proposals and reports for nonprofit organizations.
    • Experience working with family foundations, DAFs, community foundations, and/or private wealth advisors.
    • Exceptional writing and copy-editing skills, including the ability to translate complex ideas and programmatic details into easy-to-understand materials for various audiences.
    • Experience qualifying prospects from philanthropy-affiliated entities and conducting outreach via phone and email.
    • Ability or willingness to learn and apply strategies for cultivating family foundations.
    • Sharp attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality materials.
    • Strong initiative and ability to motivate others.
    • Ability to work comfortably in a fast-paced environment and with a multidisciplinary staff of professionals.
    • Familiarity with Salesforce or another customer relationship management (CRM) software a plus; and
    • Knowledge of or experience in social sciences and/or reproductive health, rights, and justice a plus.

    Benefits

    In accordance with the New York City Pay Transparency Law, the full salary range for this position is between $116,000 and $125,000 at the time of posting. This range is specific to the New York and DC area, but base pay may vary depending on a wide range of factors including knowledge, skills, experience, and qualifications. Internal equity considerations will be reviewed before making a final offer.

    This is a Union represented position. The Guttmacher Institute practices a hybrid work schedule, requiring in-office attendance 8 days per month.
