    Description

    The Museum of Human Achievement (MoHA) is seeking a collaborative, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Communications Coordinator to help support MoHA’s communications efforts. This is a new part-time role that will play a vital part in strengthening our presence and supporting our programs, staff, and community.

    The Communications Coordinator will collaborate with staff to deliver external communications materials, as well as contribute documentation to the media archive.

    Position Focus

    Strengthen MoHA’s community and presence through communications and documentation support.

    The ideal candidate has strong writing, communication, and organization skills. Candidates should be excited to support the arts and have experience in copywriting; email and social media marketing; and file management. Prior experience in all main job duties is a plus; however, we are willing to provide training as necessary.

    Hiring Details

    We are looking for a candidate in Austin who is able to commute to MoHA, with ideal start in late March.

    During your first two months (aka provisional period) we expect regular, on-site hours. Ideal schedule is Tues-Thurs between 10am and 6pm, but Tues-Sat are available. Once established in the role, flexible work location and hours may be determined with your supervisor, with expected availability for on-site meetings.

    Shared office space will be provided at MoHA. Having your own laptop is nice but not necessary (we have computers on-site). Some local travel for meetings and events may be required.

    Candidates should be

    • Strong at written communications and organizational skills
    • Familiar with marketing concepts and tools (email marketing platforms - we use Mailchimp, audience segmentation, social media, press releases, etc)
    • Comfortable with intermediate-level computer skills for project management platforms and admin (we use Google Suite and monday.com), able to learn new admin software with user guides
    • Comfortable with basic tasks in graphic design software (we use Canva)
    • Self-motivated and able to self direct
    • Attentive to detail
    • Communicative, friendly, and flexible
    • Familiar with MoHA, ideally have attended an event or two here
    • Inspired by working in a collaborative, DIY environment of diverse artists and creative folks
    • Good at communication, open to asking questions for clarification and double checking

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Email and Communications Support:

    • Collaborate with staff to gather events listing information for site and newsletter, edit listings for clarity and tone
    • Improve and maintain templates for each communication use case and PR text per event/project
    • Draft and schedule Mailchimp email newsletters, ensuring they are sent out on-time
    • Work with supervisors to understand and manage audience tags in Mailchimp and Airtable for targeted communications
    • Draft and send press releases, maintain Airtable database of press contacts
    • Communicate progress to supervisors and colleagues and ask for feedback and approvals in a timely manner
    • Support staff with other external communications needs that may arise, which may include copyediting, development efforts, and documenting press articles
    • Create simple graphics using existing templates
    • Post announcements on MoHA’s Discord and Instagram accounts
    • Identify and take action on mission-aligned marketing opportunities
    • Perform occasional in-person outreach and tabling at onsite and offsite events

    Admin Organizing:

    • Support MoHA’s media archive by organizing and uploading media files, following file management guidelines
    • Select photos for use in communications materials, MoHA’s website, and events, including proper attributions and writing alt text descriptions
    • Safeguards users’ data following best practices and organizational guidelines
    • Perform data backups and support data cleanup
    • Support with additional administrative tasks

    Benefits

    Pay:

    • Annual pay for this 20 hours per week part-time position is $18-$20/hr, commensurate with experience.

    Fringe Benefits:

    • Monthly health insurance reimbursement of up to $200/month.
    • Annual wellness stipend of up to $250.

    Paid Time Off:

    • Up to 15 paid vacation days per year, calculated at .12 hours per hour worked.
    • Paid sick leave is calculated at .048 hours per hour worked.

    Employees are eligible for benefits after 2 months of employment.
