Position Title: Full Charge Bookkeeper

Salary Range: $85,000 – $90,000
Position Summary
Church of the Heavenly Rest, a dynamic Episcopal parish in New York City, NY, is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Full Charge Bookkeeper. This role is responsible for managing the full scope of the church’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance. The ideal candidate will bring at least 10 years of bookkeeping experience, strong technical skills, and a proactive approach to improving financial processes and procedures—the ability to self-manage their time and prioritize their to-do list.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile all general ledger accounts, including multiple funds and restricted accounts
- Record and reconcile all banking transactions, including deposits, transfers, and disbursements
- Process accounts payable processes, including coding and paying of invoices through RAMP, maintaining vendor data, including W-9s, and preparing annual 1099 returns
- Process twice-monthly payroll
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the Rector, Vestry, and Finance Committee
- Contribute to the annual budgeting process in collaboration with church leadership
- Collaborate with the Development department to track and report on contributions, pledges, and donor records
- Collaborate with leadership to prepare documentation for annual audits
- Maintain accurate records of endowments and designated funds
- With the assistance of financial consultants, implement and maintain internal controls and financial policies
- Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, workflows, and reporting
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of full-charge bookkeeping experience, preferably in a nonprofit or church setting
- Proficiency in Sage Intacct is preferred
- Familiarity with RAMP (bill payment platform) is preferred
- Strong knowledge of fund accounting and nonprofit financial reporting
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data and improve processes
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
- High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information
