    Description

    The NAACP Virginia State Conference is hiring a legislative coordinator who will report directly to the President and Chair of the Political Action Committee and will be primarily responsible for the implementation of the NAACP Virginia State Conference 2026 Legislative Priorities (Priorities) and Legislative Day.The candidate will also be responsible for conducting a proactive community mobilization and education program, which, at a minimum, must include promoting accurate and positive messaging and Call to Action campaigns, increasing awareness and support among members, communities, and partners, and petition elected officials and staff to ensure legislation supports NAACP Virginia State Conference objectives and goals.

    This position has a start date of December 1, 2025. This position is based in Richmond, Virginia, and nights and weekends will be required.

    Position Responsibilities

    • Works with the PAC in the development, update, and management of the 2026 Legislative Priorities Plan.
    • Maintains a comprehensive calendar of activities for the VA General Assembly to update the PAC committee
    • Produces letters, meeting minutes, reports, one-pagers, talking points, and presentations; proofreads materials for accuracy.
    • Develop and update in a timely manner, a bill tracking worksheet, that will be shared with members of the PAC team and other relevant parties. Tracks policy developments of state policy that could impact the NAACP Virginia State Conference and its units.
    • Attend relevant House of Delegate and Senate committee and subcommittee meetings, when available, to provide testimony on behalf of the NAACP Virginia State Conference and will organize testimony from other individuals and partner organizations for those meetings.
    • During General Assembly sessions, responsible for sending daily session update email to the President and Political Action Chair, that includes:
      • Topline summary of status of VSC priority legislation
      • Pertinent events on the legislative calendar for the day
      • Develop Action Alerts as designated by the VSC PAC and distributed via Every Action
      • Create Press and Communication targets for President and Chair of the Political Action Committee
      • Check-in calls (15 min) and longer weekly calls with President and Chair of the Political Action Committee to include tangible action items
    • Develop weekly session updates to be disseminated to Units
    • Develop an End of Session Wrap Up that includes the status of our 2026 Legislative Priorities
    • Develop the criteria and format for a legislative report card
