    Description

    Help support and expand WV FREE’s sexual & reproductive health programs, including a new statewide initiative to bring evidence-based sexual health education to West Virginia youth!

    We’re seeking a passionate and detail-oriented individual to serve as a Program Development VISTA, supporting our SHARE initiative and other training and outreach programs. This program provides sexual health education in community-based settings to youth across West Virginia.

    As a VISTA, you’ll help refine program infrastructure, organize materials for workshops, coordinate statewide outreach, and assist in developing resources for youth and program partners. You’ll also plan engagement events and contribute to program evaluation by collecting and analyzing feedback. Through your efforts, you’ll play a key role in strengthening WV FREE’s programmatic reach and relevance.

    This position is based out of our office in Charleston, WV.

    VISTA Member Duties:

    • Refine and enhance program infrastructure, including workflows, materials organization, and resource tracking.
    • Support statewide outreach efforts to recruit participants and expand partnerships for workshops and training programs.
    • Plan and coordinate events, including virtual dialogues with stakeholders and in-person workshops.
    • Develop digital and physical resources, such as county-specific health guides, promotional materials, and program evaluation tools.
    • Collect and analyze data from program participants to inform improvements and share program impact with stakeholders.
    • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training for the SHARE Youth Advisory Council.
    • Promote WV FREE training opportunities through newsletters, outreach events, and communications materials.
    • Attend meetings, trainings, and other professional development.

    What we’re looking for:

    • Proficiency with computers & a willingness to learn new digital tools.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • A passion for health promotion and a commitment to making a difference.
    • Some travel for outreach events is expected, both in town and around the state. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.

    AmeriCorps VISTA is a year-long volunteer service program to help build capacity in nonprofit organizations and public agencies nationwide.     AmeriCorps is a federally funded program and operates under its own residency requirements. To serve as a VISTA member, you must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident. These requirements are set by the federal government and are separate from WV FREE’s own employment eligibility policies

    Benefits

    Americorp VISTA benefits:

    • Members earn a living stipend for their service ($13,362 per year, paid out bi-weekly for 365 days of service, as of July 1, 2020)
    • Members earn either an education award to pay off loans or pay for future education (equal to the Pell Grant in the fiscal year that they start) or a cash award (~$1800)

    • Members receive Non-Competitive Eligibility (NCE), a preference in the federal hiring process for up to 3 years after their term ends
