    Description

    About Us

The Breastfeeding Center for Greater Washington's mission is to support families from pregnancy through the transitions of early parenthood with relationship-based care, evidence-based instruction and resources, and integrative health services for lactation. As a smaller organization, we’re looking forward to bringing on a visionary leader to expand our programming and help carry out strategic plans.

    The Role

We’re looking for a Director of Outreach & Partnerships—a hands-on operational leader to help guide our growth, expand our community presence, and deepen our impact. This leadership role works closely with the Board and staff, co-leads alongside the Practice Manager, and ensures our programs, partnerships, and public engagement reflect the Center’s values and mission.

This position is perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic, evolving organization—someone who can roll up their sleeves to get work done while thinking systematically about operations, partnerships, and program growth.

    What You'll Do

    Operational Leadership & Growth

    • Lead day-to-day outreach, partnership, and community engagement efforts with an eye toward organizational growth
    • Collaborate with staff and the Practice Manager to maintain smooth operations during periods of change and expansion
    • Support program development and integration of maternal/child health initiatives
    • Serve as a trusted leader during transitions, providing stability and vision while being a hands-on doer

Build Partnerships & Represent the Center

    • Represent the Center at events, conferences, and media opportunities
    • Cultivate relationships with healthcare providers, nonprofits, agencies, and corporate partners
    • Strengthen the Center’s reputation as a regional leader in maternal and child health

    Drive Program & Organizational Development

    • Align outreach efforts with program goals and service delivery
    • Plan and implement initiatives that increase engagement and deepen community impact
    • Support new programs and services as the Center grows

    Fundraise & Grow Resources

    • Lead grant writing, sponsorship development, and donor engagement initiatives
    • Coordinate fundraising campaigns and events that support organizational sustainability

    Support Governance & Culture

    • Report on key metrics to the Board and assist with program and organizational planning
    • Ensure all outreach and engagement activities comply with ethical and legal standards
    • Foster a culture of inclusion, professionalism, and trauma-informed care
    • Champion a collaborative, flexible, and positive workplace as the Center evolves

    What You Bring

    • 7+ years in leadership roles within nonprofit leadership, outreach, or community engagement
    • Proven ability to execute initiatives, supervise staff, and manage cross-functional projects
    • Hands-on operational experience; able to balance big-picture planning with day-to-day action
    • Proven success in fundraising, strategy, and public representation
    • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
    • Passion for maternal health, lactation support, and family wellness
    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred
