    ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The Climigration Network (CN) is a diverse national coalition of 350+ members – including Indigenous leaders, community leaders, practitioners, policymakers, government staff, researchers, storytellers, artists, caregivers, and more. CN members collaborate through a leadership council, working groups, communities of practice, and a participatory grantmaking program for small-scale community-based projects. Together, we work to create new support systems with and for communities responding to climate displacement that are rooted in agency, care, reciprocity, and justice. POSITION SUMMARY

The Climigration Network (CN) is seeking a new part-time Communications Associate to help articulate and share our vision, practice, and the innovative ideas and approaches that are being developed in our network to inspire members and partners to join in our collective mission.

We are looking for an experienced, talented and creative writer and content producer/editor. This position will add critical staff capacity to our 2-person team. In close collaboration with the Network Director, Program Manager, and CN members, this position will implement and refine communications strategies that align with our principles, mission and vision and elevate the efforts of CN collaborative teams, experiences, models and publications via social media, network events and our website.

This is a remote, part-time, 25 hrs/week, position that reports to the CN Director. No travel is required. The position will include full benefits and last for at least 4 months, with the potential to extend into a permanent position if funding permits. NOTE: We are actively seeking funding to extend this role into a permanent position.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Draft short written narratives and blogs
    • Edit and produce basic short-form audio and video stories
    • Collect and organize a variety of content and resources from, and for, CN members via regular newsletters
    • Edit and prepare reports for sharing/publication, including content review, layout, and basic graphics
    • Update website content with communications materials that are produced
    • Maintain CN’s online presence on social platforms, including regularly posting content and monitoring engagement as needed
    • Assist with fundraising and grant writing materials, as needed
    • Gather and present information to communicate program outcomes and the organization’s collective impact
    • Support communications tasks (e.g., invitations, outreach, follow-up communications products) for events, workshops, and dialogues
    • Build and maintain an understanding of CN mission, vision, principles, and work

    THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who (1) believes passionately that decisions about how to adapt to climate risks, whether in place or in a new home, must be led by community members; (2) is inspired to create high-quality, human-powered content to communicate the critical value of that approach; and (3) has experience producing compelling communications products to inspire mission-driven investment and partnership. If hired, you will gain experience working alongside community and Indigenous leaders, practitioners, and researchers to create and share meaningful communications products on essential topics of home, place, culture, and agency.

    Specific Experience Requested:

We recognize that each applicant for this role will bring unique skills, knowledge, experiences, and background to this position, lending their strengths to the trajectory of CN. We welcome a wide range of experiences and perspectives in our applicant pool, and will be looking for candidates who possess many, but not necessarily all, of the following qualifications and experience.

In addition to being aligned with our mission, vision, and principles, we seek someone with:

    • 3+ years of applicable professional experience in communications, preferably in a similar role
    • Excellent communications skills in English, with the ability to craft powerful, concise narratives in written, audio, and/or video format
    • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to outline workplans, communicate and clarify needs, multitask, meet deadlines, maintain attention to detail, and produce high-quality work products
    • Experience collaborating and communicating with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, geographies, and perspectives
    • The ability to lead initiatives, working both independently and in collaborative teams in a remote environment, and to take direction and receive guidance from others
    • Experience with graphic design, video, and audio editing
    • Competency in collaborative tools and platforms used regularly in CN – Google Workspace and Zoom; web/social platforms – including Squarespace, YouTube, LinkedIn; and graphics tools – including Adobe and/or Canva
    • Experience living in and/or working with under-served communities, including Indigenous communities, communities of color, and low-income communities
    • An interest in working as a member of a close-knit, principled, and dedicated team offering high quality reliable support to CN members and partners

    Preferred Additional Qualifications

    • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (written and verbal)
    • Lived and/or professional experience communicating about harmful climate impacts, disaster response, displacement, adaptation-in-place, and/or relocation
    • Experience and engagement with local initiatives in your own community (e.g., mutual aid / grassroots organizations, local government, advocacy, etc.)
    • Experience communicating with private funders and donors
    • Familiarity with SEO and website and social media analytics

Please note: The Climigration Network’s AI use is restrictive, limited to features that are embedded within existing tools and platforms. We believe in human-powered content grounded in trust and relationship. No generative AI will be used to create communications products, and we ask that you do not submit application materials created with AI. If hired, you will be asked to adhere to our AI policy, which is described in our Charter and revisited annually by our Council.
