    Sanar, meaning “to heal” in Spanish, is dedicated to the healing of individuals and communities impacted by traumatic violence. Sanar is recognized as an international leader in fostering resilience through evidence-based, community led and lived experience driven approaches. Sanar has two key programs:

    1. Sanar’s Wellness Center provides evidence-based, trauma-specific mental health services to individuals with lived experience of human trafficking, sexual violence, domestic violence and image-based sexual abuse. Locatedin Newark, New Jersey, Sanar’sWellness Center specializes in healing services available in English and Spanish.
    2. Sanar’s Thrive Initiative provides training and technical assistance for multidisciplinary stakeholders while supporting the wellbeing of trauma-exposed frontlineprofessionals at the local, national, and global level.

    Sanar is seeking a Thrive Specialist to support the development and facilitation of trauma-conscious, person-centered, and wellness-based training and education through Sanar’s Thrive Initiative. This position will support the Thrive Initiative in creating, coordinating, and facilitating trauma-conscious training, technical assistance, workshops and courses including Sanar’s Foundations of Trauma and Resilience Course, as well as workshops and services focused on wellbeing in trauma exposed organizations.

    This position is meant for a flexible candidate that is deeply passionate about healing, wellness, and creating system change that facilities trauma-conscious and person-centered care at the micro, mezzo, and macro level. An ideal candidate will have a strong passion for both training and technical assistance, in addition to an understanding of clinical orientation to trauma sensitive and person-centered service delivery in social justice-related fields.

    In addition, this position requires a professional who is highly organized and adaptable, able to work both independently and collaboratively, and has experience adhering to grant requirements.

    This position will require you to work in-office in Newark for a minimum of 2 days per month, maximum of 5 days per month, depending on project needs and workshop requests. National travel is also required on an as needed basis for training delivery, conferences, and other events.

    Essential Responsibilities

    The position will require flexibility, enthusiasm for working with diverse communities, and the ability to navigate complex environments with grace, flexibility, and compassion.

    Training Development and Facilitation

    • Develop and facilitate high quality and cutting-edge training curricula, courses, and workshops to build trauma-conscious and person-centered solutions pertaining to both primary and secondary trauma.
    • Develop and manage Learning Management System (LMS) based course and workshops.
    • Facilitate workshops, training and events for diverse audiences including allied social justice organizations, community groups, service providers, and other stakeholders to increase general trauma-literacy and education.
    • Develop trauma-conscious educational materials to ensure they are trauma-informed, client centered, accessible, and culturally sensitive.
    • Develop and implement evaluation tools to ensure workshops, trainings, and tools are working effectively by facilitating pre- and post-evaluations.
    • Coordinate logistics for virtual and in-person events, such as workshops, wellness hours, technical assistance, listening sessions.
    • Develop and implement promotional materials and communications strategies for training.

    Wellness Facilitations

    • Develop and facilitate experience-based wellness workshops, retreats, and other relevant services that mitigate the impact of trauma exposure for organizations, frontline staff, and individuals with lived experiences impacted of secondary trauma exposure and empathy-based stress.
    • Coordinate with external wellness practitioners for co-facilitation of wellness-based services.
    • Facilitate individuals or small groups services that mitigate the impact of vicarious or secondary trauma through Wellness Sessions or additional resources.

    Partnership Support

    • Support relationship building with key stakeholders including funding entities, training partners, subject matter experts, and wellness contract entities.
    • Support the Managing Director with grant applications, management, and reporting.
    • Connect with new potential stakeholders and inform them of Thrive Initiative services, upcoming workshops, and build relationships.
    • Increase partnership engagement and retention through diverse communication touch-points.
    • Assist in an other areas of training and education support.

    Required Professional Competencies

    • A minimum of two years facilitating training, learning development, or other education-based initiatives.
    • Excellent facilitation and public speaking skills.
    • Experience with supporting training and workshop development.
    • A background working with organizations and companies that support individuals and communities impacted by complex trauma and interpersonal violence.
    • Emotional maturity, stability, and resilience is required, along with excellent social skills that are authentic empathetic, and create a strong alliance with the communities Sanar serves.
    • Experience, comfort, and sensitivity working in multi-cultural environments with knowledge and understanding of diversity, oppression, and privilege.
    • A strong desire to support individuals and communities impacted by interpersonal violence and/or are vulnerable to exploitation through a trauma-transformed lens.
    • Experiences working with marginalized communities, including youth, families, individuals identifying on the LGBTQI spectrum, individuals of color and immigrant populations.
    • Ability to represent Sanar at community events, meetings, and other outreach opportunities as assigned.
    • Proficiency with Zoom, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    Preferred Professional Competencies

    • Minimum of three years’ experience supporting individuals, groups, or organizations who have been impacted by complex trauma and interpersonal violence.
    • Training in trauma-specific modalities.
    • Experience drafting curriculum utilizing an adult learning theory.
    • Learning development and design background for curriculum development.
    • Active LSW/LCSW; LPCL; LMFT license or equivalent.
    • Understanding of neuroscience-backed and evidence-based practices in the aftermath of trauma exposure.
    • Experience with LearnDash, Survey Monkey, MailChimp, Monday.com, and/or Microsoft Suite.
    • Experience and sensitivity working in multi-cultural environments.
    • Strong personal practice of self-care and wellness-based supports.
    • Alignment with Sanar’s mission ,vision, and core values.

    Level of Language Proficiency

    Sanar recognizes the importance of additional language capabilities that contribute to the organization's goals and objectives and supports cultural competency amongst clients, partners and staff. Staff members who demonstrate full proficiency in at least one non-English language are eligible to receive a skill-based increase of $1,500 added to their base pay at hire. The pay differential will be added to the employees’ base pay at hire. Proficiency must be relevant to the employee's current role or potential future responsibilities within the organization.
