    Director of Development and Community Engagement (Independent Contractor)

    NBIA Disorders Association | Remote (U.S.) | Up to 87 hours/month | $30/hour

    The NBIA Disorders Association is seeking a dynamic, creative, and highly organized Director of Development and Community Engagement (Independent Contractor) to help grow our fundraising, awareness, and community engagement efforts. This part-time contract role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact for families affected by NBIA disorders while bringing fresh, modern ideas to a mission-driven organization.

    This position is structured as an independent contractor engagement with an initial 12-month contract term, during which performance, collaboration, and overall fit will be reviewed for potential renewal or expansion of the role.

    What You’ll Do:

      • Lead fundraising initiatives, family fundraisers, sponsorships, campaigns, and special events
      • Identify and cultivate new revenue streams to ensure the organization’s long-term sustainability
      • Work closely with our existing Development Committee and energize it with new ideas, expanding volunteer engagement and community involvement
      • Create engaging content for all social media platforms using Canva or other design tools, ensuring messaging is relevant, timely, and audience-focused
      • Plan and execute awareness campaigns that highlight families, research, and community impact
      • Collaborate with the Administrative Assistant to send donor acknowledgements and assist with preparing reports
      • Maintain CRM records, track engagement, and support reporting
      • Occasional travel to biennial family conferences or special community events

    What We’re Looking For:

      • A digitally-savvy, creative thinker who understands today’s social media landscape and trends
      • Experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or community engagement
      • Comfortable identifying new revenue opportunities and cultivating sustainable donor relationships
      • Highly organized, personable, and able to motivate and work collaboratively with volunteers, staff, and stakeholders
      • Passionate about family-centered, science-informed advocacy
      • Certified Fund Raising Executive Certification preferred

    Contract Term & Performance Review

    Initial Contract Period:

    This role will begin with a 12-month independent contractor agreement. During this period, performance, collaboration, and alignment with organizational needs will be reviewed to determine continuation, renewal, or potential expansion of the engagement.

    Measurements of Success

    Fundraising & Revenue Growth

      • Demonstrated growth in fundraising revenue compared to the previous year
      • Successful execution and enhancement of existing fundraising campaigns
      • Launch of at least one new community-based or peer-to-peer fundraising initiative

    Community Engagement

      • Increased participation from families, volunteers, and supporters in fundraising efforts
      • Strengthened collaboration and communication with the Development Committee
      • Expansion of community-led fundraising or engagement activities

    Sponsorship & Partnerships

      • Securing new or renewed sponsorships for conferences, events, or programs
      • Reviewing and enhancing existing sponsorship packages and materials to improve usability, messaging, and effectiveness across conferences and events

    Operations & Collaboration

      • Timely coordination with the Administrative Assistant on donor acknowledgements and reporting
      • Accurate tracking of development activities and progress toward goals
      • Effective collaboration with staff, volunteers, and leadership

      • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and strong organizational skills
      • Alignment with NBIADA’s mission and values
      • Openness to feedback and ability to adapt strategies as needed
