    Job Opportunity: Compost Project Lead

    Location: Allegheny County (specifically Clairton, Braddock/North Braddock, and Swissvale)

    Schedule: Full-time, grant-funded position until 6/30/27, with possibility of extension if funding allows

    Position Description

    The project lead will be responsible for the implementation of Clean Air Council’s community composting project in Clairton, Braddock/North Braddock, and Swissvale. The project lead will coordinate efforts to educate residents and local groups about the benefits of composting and coordinate outreach to residents and communities to seek compost bin hosts, with the goal of completing 150 total composting projects by the end of the grant period. The project lead will coordinate a team including staff and volunteers to accomplish all project goals and deliverables, while also working to build a network of composting sites across the three communities. Project responsibilities may change over time.

    Responsibilities:

    • Implement a community outreach and engagement plan to seek new compost bin hosts and engage residents and community stakeholders in composting projects. This may include activities such as tabling at community events, knocking doors, distributing mailers, and running social media campaigns
    • Prepare and distribute educational resources about composting and promotional materials about upcoming community meetings (e.g., fact sheets, flyers, etc)
    • Educate residents and local groups about the basics of composting through hands-on community workshops, presentations, and one-on-one conversations
    • Support residents in setting up and maintaining safe, durable, and animal-resistant compost bin systems
    • Connect people who may have barriers to participation in the project (e.g., access to land for composting, a disability, etc)
    • Lead a team of staff and volunteers to support project goals
    • Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards

    Qualifications:

    • Previous project coordination experience including managing budgets, timelines, materials, and deliverables
    • Experience in community outreach and education, or work that required similar skills
    • Excellent team leadership skills
    • Knowledge of community assets and concerns in Clairton, Braddock/North Braddock, and Swissvale
    • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including public speaking
    • Experience building partnerships and collaborating with external project partners

    Other Considerations

    • The Council will prioritize candidates that live in Clairton, Braddock/ North Braddock, and Swissvale
    • This position requires a vehicle for local and regional travel and transportation of project materials
    • Occasional evenings and weekends will be required
    • Ability to lift and move items up to 25-50 lbs occasionally
