ASISTA was created to allow access to safety and justice because there were no safe routes to justice and most of the systems were not welcoming. We worked with partners in the domestic violence community and members of Congress to help create laws that provide routes to secure immigration status for immigrant survivors of domestic and sexual violence and other crimes. Once we opened the door to access, we found those who help this population need support navigating the immigration system. We also worked closely with the government to ensure the laws Congress created are implemented as intended. Based on this history and expertise, we are a recognized leader in this field.
