About Us

The Portland Urban Debate League (PUDL) is dedicated to bridging achievement gaps for marginalized youth by expanding access to policy debate. We are partnering with secondary schools (grades 9-12) to establish school-based debate teams. Competitive policy debate is an opportunity for students to access mentorship, scholarship opportunities, career pathways, and build literacy/speaking skills. Students will learn the fundamentals of speech, argumentation, and research and compete in debate tournaments throughout the school year. PUDL is a partner of the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues (NAUDL), whose Urban Debate League (UDL) model has served over 600 high schools in over 22 US cities since 2002.
