About Us

Children have a natural sense of wonder about the world around us. Together, we can nurture their curiosities, guide their questioning, and develop their potential for scientific inquiry. The Hollingworth Center at Columbia University’s Teachers College is offering a 10-week program for three, four, and five year olds. Our dynamic sessions, led by experienced educators, will invite children to ask questions, dig deeper, and use all of their senses to observe scientific phenomena.

Since 1981, the Hollingworth Center has designed innovative programs for early childhood and science education. Inquiry & Me combines the Center’s areas of expertise as we explore how to think, work, and collaborate like a scientist. A typical session will include a group meeting to discuss the scientific task, an opportunity to experiment and explore, and a reflective share circle to conclude our session and to make connections to our future investigations. The children will receive a menu of extension tasks to extend our inquiry from Teachers College to their home!

Inquiry & Me is designed and taught by Sarah Duer, the Director of New Initiatives at the Hollingworth Center. Dr. Lisa Wright, the Director of the Hollingworth Center, and Dr. Jacquelyn Durán, Director of Science Initiatives, are advising the implementation of the program and curriculum development.
