    Roosevelt has a diverse student body:

    In the 2013-1014 school year, among the 1000+ students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grade, 62% are Latino, 17% Caucasian; 14% African American; and 7% other. 19% of students are English Learners, 16% have special needs and 86% of students qualify for free or reduced cost lunch.

    Roosevelt is a popular middle school for matriculating 5th graders:

    Families from four "cluster" elementary schools and a dozen other community schools through out the city, enroll their children at Roosevelt for many reasons, the most important of which is its success in preparing them for high school and for life. The school community aims to ensure 100% high school graduation and post secondary educational for all of its students.
