  • About Us

The LAYC Education Enhancement team seeks tutors for students at Theodore Roosevelt Senior High School (DC public high school) to help create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating tutoring space for 9th – 12th graders.

Volunteer tutors will support enrolled students with general academic and homework support in the areas of reading, writing, and math. In addition, volunteers can help prepare and review college applications and essays, FAFSA applications, job applications, or participate in mock interviews (for college or employment.) This is an opportunity for direct youth one-on-one engagement via tutoring, homework help, enrichment activities, and limited mentoring. Tutoring sessions will take place between 3:15-5:30 depending on a volunteer’s schedule, but the critical hour for availability is 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. and/or 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. Bilingual English-Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply to support tutoring with limited English-speaking students. The ideal volunteer will possess some college experience and possess a flexible schedule during after-school hours. Volunteers with experience teaching ESL or SAT prep are greatly needed.
