  • Mission

NDMVA believes that education is the fundamental tool in the struggle for human dignity, self-esteem and self-determination. We are committed to helping people help themselves. Our goal is to promote and encourage education, community empowerment, leadership development and multicultural harmony in hopes of producing greater unity, less violence and better informed citizens in our communities.

    About Us

Notre Dame AmeriCorps members have served in the agricultural community of Watsonville, CA since September 2004. Members serve as tutors in public schools and alternative school settings. At the Second Harvest Food Bank and Loaves and Fishes, members support resource distribution, man the hotline referral service for needy families and provide nutrition education.

Members receive a living allowance, health insurance, a childcare subsidy if needed, during the eleven months of service, or 6 months January to July. On completion of a minimum of 1700 hours of service (or 900 for 6-mo), the member receives an education award. Service is full-time, forty hours per week from September 1 to the second to last week in July.
