Rochester AmeriCorps

  • About Us

Rochester AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service that engages people in strengthening communities through direct service. Our education focused program hosts full-time members who commit to serving 40 hour weeks. Members work to improve the educational and behavioral outcomes of students in the Rochester City School District as well as students' preparation for, and prospects of success in, post-secondary education. Drawing upon a framework of educational and social equity, members serve in elementary and secondary schools working to improve students' academic engagement and social-emotional health and well-being. Rochester AmeriCorps is sponsored by Monroe Community College.

Members are placed in small cohorts in targeted Rochester City School District schools. After an intensive orientation and training, each member is placed at a host-site that best fits their skills, interests, and experience. Once placed, members report to their school where daily activities may include: contributing to enrichment activities and programming, providing academic and social-emotional supports, conducting academic tutoring, engaging in the attendance initiative of the school, and providing college / career preparation services.

As stated by a program alumnus, "The positive impact on my life, both personally and professionally, is an experience I couldn't have gained anywhere else. Being a part of the community that is AmeriCorps . . . made me a better human being."
