About Us

Rochester AmeriCorps is an education focused Sate and National AmeriCorps program that hosts members who are passionate about providing direct service to youth in Rochester, NY. Members support students' educational engagement, social-emotional competencies, and college and career access. Serving in targeted city elementary and secondary schools, community-based pre-collegiate programs, Monroe County DHS, and other education based community organizations, members provide direct services which include and array of activities including: enrichment activities, tutoring, intensive student support, college and career prep services, connecting parents with community resources, contributing to school activities and events, building positive relationships, and importantly serving our students with respect, dignity, responsibility and a sense of commitment. 

As stated by a program alumnus, "The positive impact on my life, both personally and professionally, is an experience I couldn't have gained anywhere else. Being a part of the community that is AmeriCorps . . . made me a better human being."

Benefits of service include: Bi-weekly living allowance of $522 (estimated, pre-tax),Education Award of $5,775 upon successful completion of the program -award can be used to pay onto federally backed student loans or to pay for higher education costs up to 7 years into the future. For members 55 and older education awards can be passed on to children or legal dependents (7 year deadline still applies), Student loan forbearance (on qualified, federally backed student loans), Child care subsidy for legal dependents 12 and under paid at NYS prevailing rate to day care center, in-home daycare, or family member, Individual health insurance – no monthly premium paid by member, SNAP – Rochester AmeriCorps income does not count when determining eligibility, Plus - Specialized training, ongoing professional development, and extensive networking opportunities
