Literacy Design Collaborative
The Literacy Design Collaborative (LDC) began with a group of literacy experts working to paradigm-shift the teaching necessary to implement the college-ready demands incorporated in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) by embedding literacy as the foundation of core subject instruction, rather than adding reading and writing skill development as a supplement to teaching content. After two years of design and innovation, LDC, with generous support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has created a new central organization to guide its growth and commitment to quality. The new LDC organization will sustain the impact and momentum of the last two years while accelerating the growth and scale of LDC framework and tool adoption. Its primary purposes will be to create and extend awareness and engagement about LDC; deepen existing teacher and student participation, quality, and innovation of the LDC framework; and continuously grow the base of LDC users to achieve the end goal of improving student literacy skills. To achieve these purposes, the Literacy Design Collaborative organization will connect and support existing and new LDC partners as well as design and implement a viral teacher-adoption strategy, while continuing to ensure that the LDC framework facilitates high-quality literacy instruction.
