About Us

Chickpeas Child Care Center is a 40-year-old nonprofit preschool in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Our school has recently started it's transition from a parent-run cooperative to a DOE-funded 3K and PreK for All program.

Chickpeas uses an emergent curriculum and create units of study that stem from the children’s interests and teachers observations of their curiosities and play themes. We emphasize social and emotional development, parent involvement, and community engagement. We aim to create a nurturing first school experience for children that fosters a lifelong love of learning and a deep respect for diversity, community, and justice. Chickpeas kids are learning how to interact with one another and the world around them. Teachers provide vital guidance, which helps children figure out how to resolve disputes, handle frustrations, and collaborate constructively. Chickpeas educates for social justice and uses an anti-bias lens. We talk openly about difficult topics and help children develop the critical thinking skills that we hope will make a positive impact on the world.

Chickpeas consists of just one mixed-age classroom of three- and four-year-olds together, with a maximum of 20 students. We operate from 8am-6pm, and offer summer programming as well.
