    About Us

The Society of Art Los Angeles (SALA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making contemporary art a more equitable and engaging social space. Developing innovative curatorial projects spanning local and global contexts, SALA’s initiatives will launch between 2025 and 2028 in San Francisco. Inspired by the inclusive, cross-disciplinary spirit of salon culture, these projects aim to bring art and life closer together, showing how each can enhance the other.

Focusing on California’s cultural history, landscapes, and artistic communities, SALA strives to connect past and present. By emphasizing site-specificity, nature, and regional heritage, SALA links traditional and contemporary practices, illustrating how today’s creativity continues an evolving cultural story.

Through exhibitions, educational programs, collaborative projects, a docuseries, and a publication, SALA makes this cultural heritage accessible to diverse audiences. Emphasis is placed on the Arts and Crafts Movement’s influence on California art and broader movements shaping the state’s dynamic creative landscape.

SALA aims to foster a society where creative ideas and daily experiences intersect, encouraging participation in a more holistic, artful way of living. By uniting creativity and everyday life, SALA envisions a future where artistic expression is central to a more meaningful, connected world.
