Child Online Africa (COA) is a leading child-focused research and advocacy organization dedicated to championing the rights and well-being of children and young people across Ghana and Africa. Through bold advocacy, evidence-based policy influence, and strategic partnerships, we work to create a safer and more empowering digital environment for Africa’s next generation.
As pioneers in online literacy and safety, menstrual hygiene management, and holistic child well-being, we drive transformative change that promotes an Africa truly fit for children. Our mission extends beyond awareness—we mobilize resources, build capacity, and collaborate with governments, local and international organizations, and technical experts to combat systemic and institutional threats facing children in the digital space.
Our approach is dynamic and results-driven, integrating mass education, digital empowerment tools, violence prevention initiatives, and policy advocacy to achieve lasting impact. We believe that addressing the complexities of child online protection requires an inclusive, intersectional strategy—one that involves participatory policy development and collective action at both local and global levels.
Our advocacy efforts, particularly our work with Ghana’s Ministry of Communications, have significantly advanced Child Online Protection within the broader Cybersecurity framework, driving national awareness and influencing Ghana’s global standing in child online safety. This success serves as a model for other African nations, reinforcing our belief that the digital world has no borders—but requires responsible citizenship to navigate safely.
To bring global attention to the urgency of safeguarding children online, our Executive Director took an extraordinary step—hiking and summiting Mt. Kilimanjaro on August 4, 2019, a symbolic act to rally African nations towards prioritizing child safety in the digital age.
At Child Online Africa, we are not just advocating for change—we are leading the movement towards a secure, inclusive, and child-friendly digital future for Africa.
