Louise A. Spencer School

About Us

Louise A. Spencer School is a Newark public school that serves about 450 students in grades PreK through 8. As a school in turnaround our goal is to provide individualized instruction in order to raise academic achievement. We believe that all children can and will achieve high levels of academic success. We also believe in the Efficacy Model, whereby everyone in the school works hard to get smart. Students engage in a common core based curriculum including Core Knowledge (Amplify), Expeditionary Learning, and Math in Focus. We also use blended learning for enrichment and intervention including Compass Learning, iReady, Systems 44 and Read 180.  Our school offers technology through the use of smart boards, laptops and chromebooks.  We partner with organizations such as the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra to provide violin instruction, the NEAG Center for Gifted Education to provide a schoolwide enrichment model, and the International Institute for Restorative Practices in order to engage our students in restorative practices to build community.
