About Us

Wicoie Nandagikend's mission statement is: "To advance Minnesota’s indigenous languages through intergenerational mentoring and immersion strategies in order to nurture a quality and culturally sensitive early childhood education.” Our Vision is: “To build a thriving environment for indigenous language learning in Minnesota’s communities where it becomes part of everyday life.” Our values include: Developing leaders through language and culture.

  2. retaining and sharing language and culture
  3. engaging community through opportunities around language and culture
  4. providing culturally relevant curriculum and material
  5. enhancing self-esteem and cultural self-efficacy

Our primary population served is our Dakota and Ojibwe children ages 16 months to 5 years of age and their families in the Phillips neighborhood in Minneapolis.
