About Us

Back ground:

Intern256ug is a nonprofit organization started in 2008 by a group of 4 friends who had a passion in linking local communities to the outside world. The organization was started with an aim of preaching sustainable development to grass root communities a factor which was rare in the Ugandan ways of looking at development.

Many of the CBO’s and NGO’S depend on donor funds to run their projects and organizations which has led to various downfall of many organizations in Uganda. Intern256ug was thus started to help in creating a new strategy of sustaining grass root organizations by using the little resources to realize better and bigger outcomes.

Our mission:

Inter256ug promotes intensive and well planed programs for both national and international interns/volunteers aiming at acquiring hands on experience in developing countries like Uganda. Our Internship programs range in the fields of Environment, Community development, Health, Youth and education, Micro finance and Women’s empowerment.

We boast of more than 25 partners in the field which creates a variety of opportunities in all the catchment areas hence giving better placements to our interns.

Intern256ug future strategies are aimed at working with community organizations to achieve sustainable development on a global basis, in addition to an ongoing expansion of the catchment areas through registering various grass root organizations and acquisition opportunities within the communities of Uganda.

Intern256ug Programs:

Intern 256ug has a couple of programs it offers to interns and these include:

  1. 1. Day to Day Internship (DDI)

This involves day to day internship with an organization. Interns carry out a needs assessment within the organization and the community where the organization works and come up with a work plan and Budget which is later implemented by both the Intern and the Organization (both organization and the communities are involved).

  1. 2. Community Learning Trips (CLT’s)

CLT’s are more centered at addressing community needs in a short term of about 1 to 3weeks. In this program, Interns get to work directly with Intern256ug in implementing projects that address community needs in various fields of Water Harvesting, Waste Management, Energy saving stoves, and many other exciting community needs. CLT’s are only open to interns that come in groups of 4-15 people.

  1. 3. African Experience (AE)

In this kind of program, interns are free to choose from a variety of activities which include: Touring around the country in Game parks and Game reserves, Waterfalls and Rivers, Rafting, Kayaking, Bungee jumping, living in Host Family, working with a grass root organization, Village tours, and many more activities.

This program can last for more than 2-3 weeks depending on the number of activities chosen.
