Avalon Nature Initiative

  • Mission

Make a positive impact and leave a sustainable footprint...our youth participants take action to make Long Island a better habitat for all flora and fauna. Avalon’s Nature Initiative provides teens with skills to protect the natural environment and to inspire others to do the same.

    About Us

Offering diverse connections with local organizations, Nature Initiative coordinates events to bring our teen volunteers together with the environmental community. *Open to students in grades 8-12; all LI school districts.

Our projects are broken down into the following categories: building projects, community gardening, habitat restoration, invasive species removal, public education, species studies & science research. Some of our past opportunities included: horseshoe crab tagging, terrapin nest protection, building screech owl nest boxes, praying mantis egg case collection, evening winter walks hiking series and starting seeds for our organic produce garden.

If you are eager to create a conservation ethic and to build friendships with like-minded students who are passionate about the outdoors, then Nature Initiative might be the perfect place to fulfill your desire to serve.

Time commitments and participation will vary among our members, but the character traits we are looking for will rarely change. Please be reliable, hard-working, group-oriented, and environmentally-minded.

Students can apply online at https://avalonnaturepreserve.org/youth-programs/nature-initiative/; volunteer events run year-round. For more information, please visit our website or contact Program Coordinator Kayla Serina at Kayla@avalonnaturepreserve.org or
