Responding to a crucial societal need, we, members of the Dominican Rea Literacy Corporation, exist to empower adults by providing basic literacy and life skills through individualized tutoring in environments that respect and reverence individuals. We enable learners to transform their lives by acquiring skills to become successful parents, productive workers and responsible citizens. This mutual collaboration in adult literacy is a contemporary expression of the Adrian Dominican Sisters' commitment to education.

Join Our Family of Students and Volunteer Tutors

Learning to read, write and speak English can be a frightening experience for many adults. However, at DePorres Place, learning is fun. That's because we are unlike any other literacy center in Palm Beach County. Classes are small— volunteer tutors teach classes in small groups or one-to-one. Classes are held in a relaxed atmosphere, with friendly staff and volunteers.

English Classes for Adults:

Basic Literacy - Reading and Writing

·Volunteer Tutors teach reading and writing to English speaking adults, who are out of school and reading below eighth grade level. Tutoring is done one-to-one.

English for Speakers of Other Languages - ESOL

·Volunteer Tutors teach conversational English to non-English speaking adults. Tutoring is done one-to-one or in small groups of two to five.

Who do we serve?

·Adults 18+ who cannot read or who read below the 8th grade level and/or need help with their writing (Literacy Program)

·Non-English speaking adults whose first language is not English and who want to learn to speak English or improve their English speaking skills (ESOL Program)

How do we serve them?

We offer tutoring sessions:

·Twice a week for 1 1/2 hours each time (Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday)

·or Once a week for 2 hours (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday).

·All classes are held at DePorres Place Literacy Center in West Palm Beach, Monday through Thursday from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm., and Fridays 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
