The Disabled and Helpless Children (DHC) New Life Center Nepal, established in 2010, is a non-governmental, non-profit organization dedicated to the care, rehabilitation, and empowerment of children with disabilities. The organization is open to children with physical disabilities, and those children from situations of severe poverty, whose families are either unable to provide the basics of food and clothing, or have deserted their children.
Over the years, the center has successfully provided comprehensive care to 38 children, ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 12, ensuring they receive not only medical care but also education and emotional support.
Previous Work Experience and Success Stories
DHCNLC has a strong and proven track record of supporting children with disabilities, demonstrating our commitment to transforming lives and ensuring long-term, positive outcomes. Over the years, we have provided individualized care and rehabilitation programs tailored to the unique needs of children, empowering them to live fulfilling, independent lives.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, DHCNLC operated a children's care home where we successfully rehabilitated 14 children with disabilities. Our holistic approach focused on medical care, education, and psychosocial support, ensuring that each child received the attention and care needed for their development and well-being. The positive outcomes of this program were evident as these children were reintegrated into society, with many leading independent lives and pursuing their educational and career aspirations.
In response to the challenges brought on by the pandemic, DHCNLC adapted quickly by shifting to a family-based rehabilitation model. This innovative approach enabled us to provide continued support to 12 children who were unable to stay in the care home. Through financial assistance and regular monitoring, we helped these children access medical treatment, educational resources, and essential rehabilitation services in the safety of their homes. This model was a resounding success, and the children who participated in it experienced significant progress, leading to successful reintegration into society.
To date, DHCNLC has rehabilitated 38 children through various programs, including:
These numbers reflect our commitment to providing life-changing services and our ability to adapt to changing circumstances to continue offering critical support to children with disabilities.
Our success stories highlight the remarkable progress of children who have been empowered to overcome their challenges and achieve their dreams. These stories showcase the diverse pathways our rehabilitated children have taken, excelling in various fields and becoming successful, independent individuals. Here are just a few inspiring examples:
The ultimate goal of our programs is to ensure that children with disabilities can lead independent, well-settled lives. We are proud to report that many of our rehabilitated children are now living on their own, pursuing careers, and taking care of themselves and their families. Whether it's starting a career, continuing education, or contributing to society, these individuals are proof that, with the right support, children with disabilities can not only survive but thrive.
Present Program
In January 2024 we started our new program with 5 girls and this will increase to a maximum of 20 girls with maintaining a family type integrity, rather than an institutional, atmosphere in our Care Home. The girls in our Care Home receive ongoing health support, are enrolled at excellent schools, and once they have finished their secondary schooling we assist them to access further education or skills training.
