Waterford Community Mentoring Program - Waterford School District

  • About Us

The Waterford School District, through our Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SS/HS) Initiative has received grants from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to start two mentoring programs within Waterford. These programs will build upon the existing relationships that have been developed through SS/HS. Through one-to-one mentoring relationships youth in the program will demonstrate a reduction in alcohol and marijuana use, a reduction in recidivism rates, a decrease in truancy rates, and an increase in pro-social behaviors.

Volunteers and students are matched based on preferences, personal interests, and overall compatibility. Parents, mentees, and mentors will communicate with mentoring program staff at least monthly.

    Community Based Mentoring Program

The student and mentor will meet at least 2 hours/week for a minimum of one year. Activities will take place within the community and will be decided upon by the match. Community partners and the Waterford School District will sponsor at least one activity/month for the matches to attend.

    Site Based Mentoring Program

The student and mentor will meet at Kingsley Montgomery School (KMS) at least 1 hour/week for a minimum of one year. In addition, structured group activities will be provided for matches every other week during the summer and once per month during the school year.
