Discovering the Reality of Our Community

Richmond, CA

  • About Us

Discovering the Reality of Our Community (DROC) is a youth leadership program focused on alcohol and other drugs prevention. We work with students at De Anza, John F. Kennedy and El Cerrito High Schools in Richmond, CA. Using the environmental prevention model, we focus on community organizing and social change activities surrounding the issue of drug and alcohol abuse. Through DROC youth learn how to lead, design and implement community assessments or "community mapping" activities; Students then design a project to address the identified needs of their communities. Project areas include: law/policy advocacy, media messaging, social norms and access to drugs and alcohol.
